Berkshire Art Center is Hiring a Faculty Artist in Berkshire Art Center's In-School Summer Program Near Pittsfield, MA

Berkshire Art Center is currently seeking Faculty Artists to lead our school-based Learning Through Arts (LTA) program (in Pittsfield).

LTA is a curriculum based approach to art education that brings impactful creative opportunities directly to Berkshire County’s K-12th grade classrooms. BAC’s skilled LTA Faculty Artists transform program sites into art studios, sharing their passion for the visual arts through engaging and accessible mixed-media projects. LTA uses the arts to effect social change and reflect the cultural landscape of the Berkshires. LTA student artists use advanced art techniques to respond to their world and emerge from the program with skills that allow them to explore issues, solve problems creatively, and collaborate effectively with others, both in and out of the classroom.

Summer Program Dates :

Mondays through Thursdays, June 24, 2024 - July 25, 2024 (No Program 7/4)

- LTA summer programming takes place in Pittsfield Elementary Schools. As a Faculty Artist, you will be placed at one school site for the duration of the 4-5 week summer program

- LTA summer meets Monday through Thursday during school-hours, between approximately 9:00am and 3pm (depending on site) plus a ½ hour of prep time and ½ hour of clean up time.

- Students follow a daily rotation of academic programming and enrichment activities. LTA Faculty Artists see students on a rotating basis throughout the day, in small classes of up to 15 students.

- All lessons and materials are provided by BAC and include a diverse range of mixed media techniques.

Qualifications and Requirements:

-Knowledge and familiarity with diverse artistic mediums and eagerness to learn new techniques.

-Passionate about making a difference in the lives of children through instilling the value of hands-on participation in the visual arts.

-Ability to create a nurturing, welcoming classroom environment.

-Strong understanding of classroom management techniques and working with challenging student populations.

-Strong arts background as professional working artist or in other creative field.

-Preferred one year experience in youth programs/educational environment.

-Self starter able to work independently and advocate on behalf of the program as a representative of Berkshire Art Center.

-Ability to lift and transport art materials to and set up art projects for art shows. (Rolling art cart provided when required to transport materials)

-Ability to remain engaged in light activity and move around classroom space for 1.5 hour-long periods.

-Computer access with internet connection required for weekly reporting on GoogleDocs and semi-frequent email communication with BAC administration.

-Reliable transportation required.

Faculty Artists will be paid $35 per hour of program time plus an additional 30 minutes before and after each day for prep and clean up.
