Flaum Eye Institute, University of Rochester is Hiring an Ophthalmic Technician Near Geneseo, NY

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is expected to perform complex technical assignments which are broadly outlined, require theoretical insight and interpretation, and allow latitude for planning and modifying methods and techniques. Exercises a high degree of skill, judgement, and an understanding of the principles and methodology of a technical field. The technician is responsible for performing technical diagnostic testing. In addition, this position is expected to answer incoming phone calls.

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED INCLUDE:

Sphygmomanometer and stethoscope, Visual acuity projector, Lensometer, Automated refractor, Tonopen, Color plates (Ishihara), HVF machine, Corneal topographer, Pachymeter, BAT (Brightness Acuity Tester)

TYPICAL DUTIES:

1. Gathers necessary information for the physician, initial patient screening work up and assessment and performs certain diagnostic testing required to properly care for the patient in accordance with any eye related problems and the sub-specialty they may be working in.

2. Obtains, performs or checks: ocular history, vital signs, visual acuity, neutralize glasses, automated refractions, pupillary exams, confrontational fields, ocular motility, intraocular pressure.

3. Performs diagnostic testing including: Basic color vision screening using Ishihara plates. Automated visual field testing, Humphrey Visual Field. Titmus Stereo test, and ICT/Tonopen. Corneal Topographies for corneal measurements associated with corneal disease or surgical management. Uses pachymeter to measure corneal thickness. Performs specialized visual acuity testing including brightness acuity tester (BAT). Perform OCT (Anterior & Posterior Segment) and Fundus Photography.

Answers inbound phone calls received on the practice's appointment phone line. Schedule patients for appoitments to be seen by ophthalmic care provider, redirect phone calls requiring transfer for additional assistance. Answers phone is a timely and courteous manner.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

CPR or obtain CPR certification; ocular anatomy and physiology, basic tonometry, ophthalmic equipment maintenance and simple repairs. Understands ocular injuries and urgent care.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma

Medical background helpful.

Will train the right candidate.

Pay: From $19.00 per hour
