Salary: $16 and up depending on experience

Seeking Optician for growing private Optometry practice. Must be dependable, detail oriented, and customer service focused. Looking for someone with strong patient care skills, able to work independently with a background in eye care. Must have at least 1 year directly relevant experience

The dispensing optician assists patients in selecting the proper lenses and frames as prescribed by the doctor. This person is familiar with all frames carried by the practice and the various lens materials and options available. This person is also fully aware of every insurance the practice accepts and is able to explain insurance benefits to patients.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Assists patients with frame and lens selections, coating options, repairs and adjustments
  2. Educates patients on lens and frame options in relation to lifestyle needs, trains patients on care of eyewear
  3. Provides benefits counseling
  4. Assists with frame board management; enters frames into inventory, helps choose frame lines.
  5. Edge, inspection (lensometry) and dispensing of frames and lenses received from outside labs.
  6. Assist with frame repairs and part replacements
  7. Assist Optometrist with contact lens trainings.
  8. Maintains the appearance of the dispensary, responsible for dispensing equipment and supply levels, organizes product literature
  9. Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

  • Relationships with others: The employee works effectively and relates well with others Including superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Company.
  • Knowledge of what insurance plans the practice accepts: The employee is able to counsel patient on their benefits and answer questions about eligibility, deductibles and coverage.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum of one years’ experience as a dispensing optician (preferred but willing to train the right candidate); possessing a firm grasp on current fashion trends, and having a good balance of assertive sales techniques with the ability to teach patients the value of the lens options recommended by the doctor for their lifestyle
  • Must have computer skills and the ability to learn EMR system
  • Strong ability to multi-task with high degree of accuracy, attention to detail a must
  • Excellent customer service
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Superior verbal and written skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills essential
