An environmental services technician maintains the overall cleanliness and sanitation of the healthcare facility in which they work. They do so by performing a range of cleaning tasks, from mopping and floor buffing to room sanitizing and waste disposal. Although they are generally not responsible for laundering linens, they are responsible for distributing linens and tracking the linens used per department. They are also responsible for refilling toilet paper and other paper products to rooms as needed. Environmental services technicians work under an environmental services director or supervisor.
EVS personnel are an Essential position at this facility to ensure efficient operations and patient care. Employees hired into an Essential position are expected to report to work for their scheduled shifts regardless of the environmental weather and road conditions that may exist.
Position Qualifications
Education: High School or equivalent
Experience: Should have familiarity with industrial cleaners and chemicals and be able to use them safely. They must take direction from their supervisors in both written and oral formats, and they must work effectively with a diverse population. They need the dexterity and endurance to perform repetitive tasks.
General Job Position Duties / Responsibilities
Dusts furniture, woodwork and equipment and dust-mops floors. Polishes and cleans fixtures in rooms and bathrooms.
Operates mechanical floor cleaners, buffers, vacuums, shampooers and related environmental service equipment.
Wet-mops rooms, halls and other areas; shampoos rugs and furniture.
Cleans vents, fan fixtures, top of windows, doorframes and other high areas using a ladder.
Gathers and disposes of trash and waste materials using specified bags or containers.
Buffs, strips, waxes and polishes floors.
Moves furniture and other heavy objects as required.
Performs terminal cleaning procedures of patient rooms and prepares rooms for new occupants; follows isolation procedures in isolation rooms.
Cleans and disinfects all fixtures, floors, mirrors, windows, doors and walls of bathrooms.
Makes supply packs for departments and puts linen stacks in carts for distribution. Takes supply requests and delivers them.
Delivers linens to departments according to pre-established par levels and schedules. Distributes emergency supplies as needed.
Keeps records of linen distribution by department; checks floor linens supplies and lists linen use by department.
Keeps work areas neat and orderly, cleans equipment and assists with other cleaning duties as assigned.
Shovels snow at all exits and ramps.
Assists with evacuations, when needed.
Follow facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures
Respect cultural and religious practices of patients from all backgrounds
Follow HIPAA regulations at all times
Be punctual and dependent for assigned shifts
Dress within the dress code requirements of the facility
Identifies all patients using at least two identifiers verbally (name and DOB), and by checking ID bracelet
Follows Hospital Wide and Department Specific policies and procedures
Must interact with physicians, guest, staff, and patients pleasantly, cooperatively, and effectively
