Position: Service Dog Handler

Job Description

Scope

The Service Dog Handler primary duties are to support student academic and social emotional achievement. The Handler will act on behalf of the Service Dog to utilize his skills to enhance the students psychological development, social skills, and increase self-esteem. 

Qualifications

The candidate shall possess characteristics that reflect: 

• A strong clear Christian testimony with a mature and godly spirit
• A daily example of the highest Christian virtue both in and out of school
• Commitment to faithful attendance and support of a church whose beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith for Christian Academy School System
• Agreement and belief that The Bible is the final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind

The ideal candidate shall provide/successfully complete the following: 

1. Previous professional experience with special needs children preferred
2. Experience partnering with other teachers and staff to help students reach their academic and emotional goals by utilizing the service dog
3. Be ICan certified or able to obtain ICan certification 
4. CPR & First Aid Training
5. Criminal Records Check

Accountabilities / Responsibilities

• Collaborate with classroom teacher and staff to meet students academic and emotional goals
• Provide service during counseling, intervention , and Providence group session (individual and group) 
• Support students by attending events (ie. lunch appearances, 1st day of school greeter, special chapels, etc.)
• Ongoing assistance to the Elementary School, Providence School, and our Educational resources team.

• Increase in academic achievement 
• Increase emotional support during crisis situations 
• Reduce stress and anxiety for students
• Decrease feelings of depression, loneliness, and isolation

Reporting Relationship

The Service Dog Handler will report to the Providence Director.
