Field Technician II - Job Description

Working as a Field Technician II in Smartlink's Technology Solutions Division, you will support wireless telecommunication infrastructure projects such as: In building, rooftops, and tower sites (No cell tower climbing). The desired candidate will have team lead experience, customer interface, project BOM development, and project closeouts. Experience with fiber preferred.

• Wireless Telecom fiber install, router upgrades, integration, testing and troubleshooting

• DC Power installation, modification, and upgrade

Summary Description:

Responsible for continuing to expand knowledge base and performing mid-to-high skilled tasks to install, de-install, maintain and repair wireless telecommunications equipment and systems. This position will install/terminate cables, to include CAT5, CAT6, routers, twisted pair, optical fiber and various sizes of power cable and other cable types, through conduit, in cable tray, above ceilings and between floors. This position will install/assemble/program/commission/integrate wireless network equipment, to include routers, DC Power Plants and Rectifiers, LMU’s, BTS (2G, 3G and 4G), MCPA’s, RF Filters, Duplexers, Backhaul (copper, fiber and microwave). This position must be able to perform all functions of standard cell site acceptance, receive, equipment installation, and cabling. This position will be tasked with working as a lead on projects, maintaining project trackers and providing updates to management. This position must be capable of performing test procedures with various types of test equipment. All work to be completed in a safe manner to the highest quality standards.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the installation, testing and maintenance of telecommunications equipment, sub-systems and ancillary equipment.
  • Perform tasks in adherence to company procedures, OEM and customer standards, and safe work practices.
  • Perform fabrication and termination of cables / connectors.
  • Work autonomously, and troubleshoot tasks and issues with supervision.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Perform any other duties, and follow any other instructions, as assigned by supervisor.
  • Complete, maintain, and process pertinent paperwork and records.
  • Apply knowledge and skills of training on the job.
  • Provide training on policies and procedures to coworkers, as needed.
  • Complete required entries and paperwork in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Punctual and consistent attendance.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough project files, project trackers and provide updates to management.
  • Perform all functions of standard cell site acceptance, receive, equipment installation, and cabling.
  • Properly operate and maintain various types of test equipment and report need for repair of calibration.
  • Perform sound testing functions and generating reports.
  • May be able to perform integration, commissioning and testing services using specialized test equipment and software.
  • Effectively handle deliverables, timelines, risks and dependencies on project(s) that are in line with statement of work
  • Proactively address internal and external issues with supervisor and offer effective solutions.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Associate Degree, Military or Technical School preferred.
  • 2-4 years related experience and/or training. Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
  • Technical oriented experience and mechanical skills are essential.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work with hand tools, power tools and test equipment are required.
