The Haven of Manitowoc County, Inc.
Executive Director

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for The Haven’s staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. She or he will initially develop deep knowledge of field, core programs, operations, and business plans.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Management:

  • Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
  • Actively engage and energize The Haven’s volunteers, board members, event committees, partnering organizations, and funders.
  • Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for ongoing local operations.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the case manager and staff.
  • Take care of Facility Repairs and Maintenance.
  • Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.

Fundraising & Communications:

  • Expand local revenue-generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations.
  • Build community partner and donor relationships as needed.
  • Refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand.
  • Use external presence and relationships to gain new opportunities.

Planning:

  • Design a strategic planning process for the program expansion into new programming.
  • Build partnerships with new community agencies and businesses, establish relationships with funders, and political and community leaders.
  • Be an external local and national presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the successes of the local program as a model for regional and national replication.

Qualifications

The ED will be committed to The Haven of Manitowoc County’s mission, vision, and core values. The ED should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience.

  • A track record of effectively leading performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget.
  • Success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Action-oriented and innovative approach to business planning
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment, off-site venues and outside event areas in various weather conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.

Position Type

This is a full-time on-site position.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Preferred Education and Experience

1. Bachelors Degree in the related field.

2. Three years or more of successful work experience in this or a related field.
