Description:

The Overnight Manager will cover the 10pm to 8am shift on assigned days of the week. The Overnight Manager is required to remain awake at all times. This position is supervised by the Executive Director. If unable to work, the overnight manager calls the supervisor as far in advance of the shift as possible and is responsible for finding another staff person to work the shift in consultation with the supervisor. Pay raises are tied to an annual performance review and available funding.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

• Follow all Night of Peace policies and procedures as laid down by the shelter’s leadership team
• Submit an EOS (End of Shift) report in hard copy into the report binder and by email to all staff every morning after the shift
• Ensure the security of the building during the night and at the end of the shift
• Fulfill end of shift requirements
• Never permit entry by any persons other than staff who must announce their presence or coming by cell phone
• Call the police if there is any safety concern whatsoever and call ambulance for guests if requested to do so.
• Ensure that guests routinely leave by 8am
• Responsible for ensuring before leaving that the shelter area conforms to requirements by Salem UMC if the church is planning an event during the day
• Confirm that guests complete all chores and use the shower according to shelter rules
• Prepare breakfast for all guests. This does not require cooking any foods but includes provision of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, milk, juice, cold cereal (sugar and non-sugar cereal), breads etc.
• Attend the mandatory monthly staff meeting and submits a written request to be excused if unable to attend
• Maintains contact with the Night of Peace social worker whenever guest advocacy issues warrant this contact
• Complete other overnight duties as directed by the supervisor

Education and Competencies

• High School diploma or GED
• Excellent customer service
• At least two years of work experience in human services
• Excellent communication skills - written and verbal
• Conflict management skills
• Ability to work both independently and as a member of a staff team
