SALARY : $26.83 / hr. - 17 hrs / week - no benefits.
JOB DESCRIPTION : The position involves responsibility for investigating criminal matters for the Public Defender. The work includes interviewing clients and witnesses.
The work is performed under general direction of the Public Defender, or other authorized employee of the office, with wide leeway allowed in planning and carrying out work assignments.
Supervision is not normally a responsibility of this position. An investigator does related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT : Possession of a valid NYS driver’s license at time of appointment. This license must be maintained throughout appointment.

VACANCY : At the present time, there is one part time 17 hour per week opening in the Schuyler County Public Defender’s Office.
The person hired will need to take a Civil Service test at a later date and be reachable on the list to gain permanency in the position.
There are no benefits associated with this part time position.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT : Candidates must have been legal residents of Schuyler or a contiguous (Chemung, Seneca, Steuben, Tompkins, and Yates) county for at least one month immediately preceding the date of application.
