Job Summary:

The Sheet Metal Fabricator is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal parts and products using a variety of tools, machines, and techniques. This role requires a strong understanding of sheet metal properties, the ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings, and the skill to operate fabrication machinery safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fabrication:
    • Cut, bend, and shape sheet metal using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication machines such as shears, brakes, and rollers.
    • Weld and solder metal parts together using appropriate welding techniques and equipment.
    • Perform finishing operations such as deburring, grinding, and polishing to ensure high-quality finished products.
  • Assembly:
    • Assemble fabricated metal parts and components according to blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
    • Use fasteners, adhesives, and other methods to join parts securely.
    • Conduct quality checks to ensure components fit and function correctly.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine project requirements and specifications.
    • Measure and mark dimensions and reference lines on metal sheets and parts.
    • Select and set up appropriate tools and machinery for each fabrication task.
  • Maintenance:
    • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tools, machines, and work areas to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
    • Troubleshoot and repair fabrication equipment as needed.
  • Safety:
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries.
    • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, and welding masks.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with engineers, designers, and other team members to understand project requirements and provide input on design improvements.
    • Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues to ensure project deadlines are met.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in metal fabrication is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a sheet metal fabricator or similar role in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Proficiency in operating fabrication machinery such as shears, brakes, rollers, and welding equipment.
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal properties and fabrication techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and the ability to follow them diligently.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy materials and equipment (up to [weight] pounds).
  • Standing, bending, and walking for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing or production setting with exposure to loud noises, heavy machinery, and potential hazards.
  • Overtime may be required based on production needs and project deadlines.
