Job Title: Director of Operations & Campus Maintenance Wage/Hour Status: EXEMPTReports to: Chief of Operations & Infrastructure Pay Grade: 7
Dept./School: Operations & Infrastructure Initiated Date: June 2024
District Primary PurposeTo ensure the optimal functioning, safety, and upkeep of all district facilities, including schools and extracurricular facilities, through strategic management of operations and maintenance services.
Department Primary PurposeTo lead and manage the comprehensive operations and maintenance of district facilities, focusing on enhancing the grounds and maintenance services across four distinct areas: three school zones and one zone dedicated to extracurricular facilities such as a golf course, water park, and planetarium. This role is critical in developing and maintaining an efficient work order management system that delivers exceptional service, transparency, and customer satisfaction.
Education/Certification
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Facility Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Professional certification in facility management, project management, or maintenance, such as CFM, PMP, or CPM, is advantageous.
Qualification Requirements
  • Proven experience in facilities operations and maintenance management within a large organization, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage diverse facility areas, including educational buildings and specialized recreational facilities.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the capacity to develop and implement effective maintenance strategies and systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with staff, vendors, and stakeholders, ensuring high levels of service and cooperation.
  • Proficiency in using facility management software and technologies to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Commitment to sustainability and best practices in facility maintenance and operations.
Major Responsibilities And Duties
  • Direct the maintenance and operations of district facilities, ensuring safe, clean, and well-functioning environments for all students, staff, and visitors.
  • Oversee the management of four distinct facility areas, aligning each zone’s services with district standards and goals.
  • Develop, implement, and refine a comprehensive work order management system that ensures efficiency, transparency, and high-quality customer service across all schools and facilities.
  • Lead the operations team in delivering routine and emergency maintenance services, prioritizing tasks based on urgency and impact on the educational environment.
  • Manage the budget, resources, and personnel for the Operations and Maintenance Department, ensuring optimal use of resources and cost-effectiveness.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by implementing innovative maintenance solutions and technologies that enhance facility management.
  • Coordinate with other district leaders to support educational and extracurricular activities through reliable facility services.
  • Establish and maintain standards for preventive maintenance programs to extend the lifespan of district assets and reduce downtime.
  • Coordinate and provide training and professional development opportunities for maintenance staff to ensure a skilled and knowledgeable workforce.
  • Regularly assess facility conditions and maintenance services, making strategic adjustments to meet the evolving needs of the district.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesDirect supervision of maintenance managers and coordinators, overseeing staff across various facilities within the district.
Working ConditionsPhysical Demands:Regularly required to inspect facilities and grounds, involving walking, standing, and often lifting materials and equipment.
Work EnvironmentMostly in an office setting with frequent visits to school sites and extracurricular facilities across the district. Interaction with maintenance staff, contractors, and school administrators is frequent.
