The Role

Tanda is seeking an ambitious software engineer with hands-on Ruby on Rails experience to join our Product Team at an Intermediate to Senior level. This is a unique opportunity for someone looking to advance their career in a rapidly growing SaaS company. The successful candidate will report to the Engineering Manager and collaborate closely with our entire product team. This hybrid position is based out of our Brisbane headquarters.

As a member of the product team, you will work across our entire product & technology stack to help us deliver the best product to thousands of customers worldwide. You’ll strive to continuously improve Tanda’s suite of features, and cement our value proposition as a marketing-leading Workforce Management Software vendor.

Our platform is built using Ruby on Rails, a popular web application framework that powers some of the biggest names in tech such as Github, Gusto, BuildKite, CultureAmp, and Shopify. We also use Javascript, PostgreSQL, AWS, and Docker in our stack. If you haven’t used Ruby on Rails before - that’s ok, experience with a comparable web framework to Rails (Laravel, Django) is a good fit. We care more about the person than specific skills. Training and development will be provided following commencement. As Tanda scales up rapidly, there are plenty of exciting challenges for developers to take on, with real outcomes and benefits for both yourself and the business.

A few of the big problems we’ve tackled recently:

• Launching two new products - Tanda Payroll and Tanda HR
• Paying off technical debt and launching new versions of features like leave management & consolidating all products to use a single user profile
• Building features that link our new products together - employees can now automatically submit reimbursement requests & they will be added to their payslip
• Building a SEEK integration for our new “Hire” product
• Running Ruby on Rails at the edge - following in the steps of companies like Github, Shopify & Stripe
• Tackling performance problems in application code
• Having developers on call to help our platform infrastructure team respond to alerts

• Two regions - APAC & Europe
• Our APAC workload is consistently running at ~40,000 RPM
• Hundreds of thousands of background jobs processed per day
• Some of Australia’s largest employers use our product - Domino’s, GYG, Best & Less, and Starbucks are just a few of the companies we work with

• 3-5 years experience in software development with a background working for a Product or SaaS company preferred
• Deep expertise in at least one component of our stack (full stack knowledge although ideal is not expected and can be taught). Experience with a comparable web framework to Rails (Laravel, Django) is desirable.
• You look to build and automate quality into our tech stack in the areas you know well e.g. by helping improve tooling
• Strong interpersonal skills to complement established team cohesion and collaboration
• Adept mentoring ability providing material feedback on the work of developers and junior developers to establish what is needed for them to grow
• No degree or formal qualification is required
