Marker is seeking a Senior Property Accountant to join the corporate team responsible for the company’s investments in student housing portfolios at universities throughout the US. Marker identifies opportunities through targeted research and a thorough understanding of university markets. Our management team modernizes systems and implements process rigor at every stage to create value. As a key member of the team, the Senior Property Accountant is responsible for managing property accounting functions, including tracking property-level financial activities, and preparing property-level financial statements. This role will be heavily involved in managing and analyzing financial data for an existing portfolio as well as new portfolio acquisitions. The Senior Property Accountant will be responsible for ensuring accuracy in financial reporting and adherence to internal policies and general accounting standards.

Responsibilities:

• Review and oversee financial transactions at the property level, including rent collection, vendor management, and accurate entry of invoices and purchase orders.
• Manage accounts payable for the property, working with the on-site GMs and the corporate Controller to ensure sound cash management across managed properties.
• Analyze capital expenditure requests and track capital projects for real estate assets.
• Prepare month end journal entries, including mortgage and insurance payments.
• Take responsibility for the month end close, including reconciliations and the preparation of a Budget-to-Actual P&L with variance analysis, Balance Sheet, and other reporting.
• Provide financial analysis to support strategic decision-making regarding real estate acquisitions, dispositions, and portfolio optimization.
• Collaborate with property level staff and the corporate operations and asset management teams on portfolio issues/opportunities and on the preparation of the annual budget.
• Work with the Controller and Marker’s external tax advisors to ensure compliance with real estate tax regulations and to assist in the preparation of annual property tax returns.

Requirements:

• Minimum five (5) years property accounting experience; ideal candidate has experience in multifamily property management for real estate investment companies
• Familiarity with accounting principles specific to real estate
• Experience in Entrata, Yardi, AppFolio or similar ERP systems commonly used in the property management industry; Entrata experience preferred
• Proficient in Excel and comfortable using Word, PowerPoint and Teams
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to present data clearly and concisely
• Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred
