Emergency Department (ED) Registered Nurse (RN) Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Collects relevant patient health data (age-specific pertinent to specialty area).
  • Analyzes the assessment data in determining nursing diagnoses.
  • Identifies individualized, expected outcomes for patient.
  • Develops and implements Plan of Care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Evaluates and documents the patient’s progress toward attaining expected outcomes in the patient medical record.
  • Provide nursing care to assigned patients.
  • Administers prescribed medication and intravenous solutions in a safe manner.
  • Reports significant alterations in patient’s condition to physician.
  • Counsels, educate, and includes patients and their families in accordance with the overall plan of care.
  • Assists patient and family in coping with stress accompanying illness; offering solace and support to the dying.
  • Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.
  • Reflects knowledge of current professional practice standards, laws, regulations, and changes in health care delivery, in daily practice.
  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge and competency in the care of patients.
  • Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers and other healthcare providers as colleagues.
  • Decisions and actions on behalf of patients are determined in an ethical manner.
  • Collaborates with the team, consisting of patient, family, and healthcare providers, in providing patient care in a healing, humane, and caring environment.
  • IUses clinical inquiry in practice
  • Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering patient care.

Required

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • Licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers completion.

Preferred

  • Meditech experience preferred.
