Job Description: Black Men Vote ShopTalk Initiative Community Organizer

Are you passionate about empowering Black communities and promoting civic engagement? Join our dynamic team as a Black Men Vote ShopTalk Community Organizer and make a positive impact on voter participation within the Black community. We are looking for individuals with exceptional people skills, excellent communication abilities, and an outstanding work ethic. This full time or part time position is a month-to-month contract, allowing for flexibility and ongoing opportunities for growth.

Responsibilities:

- Collecting Data from Barbershops Weekly: As a community organizer, your primary responsibility will be visiting local barbershops regularly to collect valuable data regarding Black Men’s commit to vote via commit to vote cards (CTV) cards.

- Tabling Local Events: Set up and manage information booths at various local events, community gatherings, and neighborhood festivals. Educate attendees about the importance of voting and actively encourage community members to get involved in the electoral process while collecting CTV cards.

- Support Your Area Lead Organizer: Collaborate closely with your area lead organizer to ensure effective execution of the Black Men Vote ShopTalk initiative. Assist with planning and organizing community outreach initiatives, and provide regular updates on progress, challenges, and successes within your assigned area.

- Assist BMVCAF with identifying barbershops in the Troy area that would be good candidates for participation in BMVCAF’s “Shop Talk” commit-to-vote program (the “Program”). This decision will solely be based on nonpartisan considerations.

- Engage in regular check-ins with the Troy Barbershops that ultimately participate in the Program (“Participating Barbershops”).

- Act as BMVCAF’s intermediary with the Participating Barbershops.

- Evaluate and provide suggestions to Participating Barbershops with regards to their collection of the goal amount of commit-to-vote cards.

- Build and cultivate partnerships with government and community organizations to increase voter engagement and the collection of Commit to Vote cards.

- Participate in a BMVCAF training regarding voter engagement in State.

- Assist Participating Barbershops to ensure that all voter commit-to-vote cards collected by each Participating Barbershop/Barbers are kept in a secure location until organizational turn-in collects the applications, cards and cover sheets; and collect and submit CTV forms from Participating Barbershops in the following manner:

  • On a weekly basis, organizer will collect commit-to-vote cards from each Participating Barbershop.
  • Build the shop talk calendar for local and special events.
  • Secure partnership, sponsor and feature opportunities for local and special events.
  • Organizer will scan CTV cards and enter them into the CRM.
  • Organizer will recruit volunteers and canvassers as needed.
  • Organizer will complete daily soft reporting documents and submit weekly reports.
  • Organizer will setup, curate and create events where necessary to collect CTV Cards.

- Passion for Empowerment: Show a genuine passion for empowering the Black community and advocating for increased voter participation. Possess a strong understanding of the Black community's unique challenges, experiences, and perspectives.
