Louisville High School is Hiring a High school counselor Near Los Angeles, CA

Description

Louisville High School is seeking a ninth and tenth grade counselor who collaborates proactively with parents, teachers, and staff to support the educational, vocational and personal growth of the students.

This role will provide students with comprehensive, individualized counseling to ensure academic and emotional progress.

The counselor will assist students with course selection / planning, time management skills, emotional support, and academic success.

In addition, the counselor will work with faculty, staff and parents to address any concerns.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Meets at least once a quarter, with assigned students.
  • Supervises each student’s academic progress and completion of graduation requirements.
  • Meets with students who are on academic probation or who have received academic deficiency notices and assist them in improving their performance.
  • Works with each student to select courses for the upcoming school year and / or make necessary schedule adjustments.
  • Serves as a resource for faculty and parents to assist in dealing with a student’s academic, personal or disciplinary problems.
  • Makes outside professional referrals when necessary.
  • Provides academic and social / emotional counseling and intervention to all freshman and sophomores, on the counselor’s caseload.
  • Explores and recommends learning resources that are available to students and their families.
  • Assists with planning and execution of counseling department programs such as Grade Level Workshops, Career Fairs, Valley Catholic High Schools College Fair, Scoreback Night, Life after Louisville / Career Fair and Grade Level College Nights for students and parents.
  • Coordinates services for students on caseload with learning differences.
  • Acts as liaison between parents / faculty / testing agencies
  • Coordinates extended test timing
  • Attends STEP and IEP meetings as necessary
  • Attends state, local, and professional development meetings throughout the year to keep abreast of changing practices in counseling.
  • Assists with PSAT Testing and AP Testing

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in School Counseling or equivalent
  • Master’s Degree in School Counseling and / or Pupil Personnel Services Credential strongly preferred
  • Experience working with and coordinating accommodations for students with learning disabilities
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision making
  • Excellent organization, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Familiarity with Naviance and SCOIR
  • Experience working with the needs of high school age students and parents in a school setting required

Wage Range

The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range.

We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
