Assistant Buyer

Reports to Supervisor of Merchandising and Buying

The Assistant buyer will support our Buying Supervisor with the selection and procurement of products. The assistant buyer's responsibilities include maintaining positive vendor relations, determining and organizing pricing strategies and terms, placing and tracking purchase orders, managing inventory and keeping track of market trends. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, and a pro-active work ethic.

Assistant Buyer Responsibilities:

Assisting the buyer with the selection of the right product mix, creating and managing purchase orders.

Writing, placing and tracking purchase orders for weekly product fill-ins, and preparing seasonal pre-book orders for review.

Ensuring products are purchased at the right time, with favorable terms and that all discounts and terms are applied.

Negotiating with vendors and building positive, long-term relationships.

Researching new suppliers and making recommendations to the buying supervisor.

Preparing competitive retail and pricing strategies.

Planning, monitoring and maintaining suitable inventory levels; developing a plan for slow moving inventory.

Preparing budgets and forecasting purchasing trends.

Compiling reports on product performance and statistics to aid the buyer in decision making.

Any other buyer or supervisor requests, on an as needed basis.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $33,000.00 - $39,000.00 per year
