JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION : Teacher
AGENCY : The Academy for Young Achievers (A4YA)
EMPLOYEE TYPE : Part-time, Hourly
 Salary: $15.00 - $23.00, based on experience and academic background.
General Summary of Position:
The position of teacher is primarily responsible for implementing and overseeing all classroom activities and ensuring that children are in a healthy and safe learning environment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:
  • Provide a quality education to children enrolled at the Academy for Young Achievers (A4YA).
  • Prepare weekly lesson plans, which include objectives and research-based methods that align with Creative Curriculum. Incorporating monthly themes into weekly lesson plans.
  • Follow required daily classroom schedules.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children enrolled at A4YA. (a4
  • Follow code of conduct, policies and procedures and local and state licensing requirements. Employees are mandated reporters.
  • Perform daily health checks for each child and report any concerns, including those of child abuse or neglect, to the director, or designee.
  • Complete and submit incident reports to the parents and the director or designee.
  • Observe and evaluate the children, keeping detailed records and work samples.
  • Data enter child information using Procare data management system.
  • Complete daily paperwork such as attendance and meal count records.
  • Ensure that all necessary materials and supplies are available to carry out lessons.
  • Greet children and parents and, address parental concerns and/or questions.
  • Conduct Parent/Teacher conferences three times per year.
  • Maintain required certifications and attend trainings or special events as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment, at all times.
  • Adhere to A4YA’s Code of Conduct and Policies and Procedures including being a Mandated Reporter.
  • Be flexible regarding your classroom assignment and schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned by A4YA Management or designee.
Qualifications:
  • Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Degree in Early Childhood, preferred. (Must be 21 years of age to work with children under 2 years old.)
  • Must have a passion to work with children.
  • Must pass pre-employment background check and drug testing.
  • Must have a pleasant professional demeanor, have a positive attitude and be a team player.
  • Must have excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Must have excellent organizational, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work without direct supervision, be self-disciplined and accountable.
  • Must be able to lift at least fifty (50) pounds.
  • Must be culturally sensitive and able to work with individuals with various backgrounds.
