CSC of Southern Hancock County is Hiring a School Counselor Near Palestine, IN
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 200 days
STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Guidance Director and/or Building Principal
PRIMARY FUNCTION: To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible men and women.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Aids students in course and subject selection.
- Helps develop master schedule of teachers and class offerings.
- Obtains career information for students.
- Schedules students new to the school and orients them to school procedures.
- Remains readily available to students in order to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding and maturity.
- Works with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems.
- Maintains student files as well as computer records for attendance, schedules, progress, transcripts, etc., and protects their confidentiality.
- Provides students with college and/or employer information.
- Processes college admissions applications and scholarship and honors opportunities.
- Confers with parents.
- Assists in orientation of new faculty members.
- Works with teachers to familiarize them with the general range of services offered by guidance department.
- Takes an active role in interpreting the school's objectives to students, parents, and the community.
- Helps to plan, administer, and evaluate school developmental tests: PSAT, terra Nova, Plato and Skillsbank.
- Serves as ISTEP Coordinator.
- Visits college campuses as assigned and meets with visiting college representatives.
- Attends workshops/seminars applicable to counseling position.Supervises Cadet Tutoring Program and I--ISTEP Tutoring Program.
- Supervises Cadet Teaching Program.
- Co-chairs Natural Helpers Program.
- Serves as corporation's homeless students' liaison.
- Serves as Drug Awareness Coordinator.
- Organizes, supervises, and implements yearly Career/College Fair with surrounding county schools.
- Facilitates counseling groups.
- Supervises Junior and Senior Class job shadowing experiences and college visitation days.
- Works with special education students and parents as well as Hancock County Joint Services teachers, school psychologists and other staff.
- Initiates , schedules and does follow-up for PATs with resource teachers.
- Supervises School-to-Work Program.
- Coordinates and is member of School Crisis Committee.
- Serves as member of School Improvement Committee.
- Coordinates scheduling and record keeping with Walker Career Center and Mt. Vernon High School.
- Develops educational plan for foreign exchange students.
- Coordinates math department testing and results for student evaluation and referral.
- Supervises student attendance.
- Assists administration in safety of students, staff, and facilities.
- Coordinates and records correspondence courses.
- Coordinates IUPUI Span Program for dual credit.
- Serves as advisor for home schooling students.
- Assists hospitals and other outside agencies upon a student’s return and while receiving treatment.
- Works with county probation and welfare departments.
- Serves as liaison for FAFSA financial aid planning.
- Coordinates and is member of scholarship selection and nominating committees.
- Supervises NPHS students involved in the elementary school mentoring program.
- Participates on community committee boards, i.e., NASA, Healthy Families & Alternatives (Domestic Violence).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
