Administrative - Position

POSITION: Director of Special Education

LOCATION: Central Office

QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Educational Administrator, Principal, or Supervisor Certificate; a minimum of three years administrative experience with Special Education administration preferred; experience managing IDEA budget preferred; experience supervising the development and implementation of IEPs and 504 plans preferred. Special Education coordinates with other programs and will be responsible for other duties as assigned.

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Directs and maintains all administrative aspects of the Special Education and Pre-School Special Education programs
  • Directs and maintains all administrative aspects of students receiving 504 services
  • Directs and maintains all administrative aspects of any IDEA grants
  • Completes all required reports and surveys pertaining to the appropriate placement of students and their receiving appropriate educational opportunities
  • Interprets and enforces federal and state laws and state and local board policies
  • Assists in the recruiting, screening, selecting, and assigning of selected teachers and staff
  • Supervises and observes selected teachers and staff cooperatively with the Principal
  • Initiates professional development opportunities for selected teachers and staff
  • Serves on job related councils, committees, and boards that impact the students and the school system
  • Ensures students receive appropriate placement and services
  • Demonstrates professional ethics and professional growth
  • Plans and works in conjunction with the Superintendent to provide needed educational services
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent
