1stCollab (YC W23) is Hiring a Product Designer Near San Francisco, CA

About The RoleWe’re hiring our first product designer to help build the world’s best advertising and marketing platform. You’ll be designing for both creators and brands. For creators, we aspire to be the best place to build a creative career—freeing creators to focus on their content, while we take care of the rest. For brands, while an ads platform might not sound interesting, our perspective is that every ads platform that’s been built has been built wrong. Our belief is that if we build a platform that feels like a consumer product—one that brands actually love using—we’ll be able to reshape how advertising works.
If you’re someone who loves to build, solve user problems, and see products come to life, this is the perfect role for you. You won’t need to jump through product reviews and approvals, we move super quickly, and you’ll be involved in every aspect of the product development process—from brainstorming to bug bashing. In short, you’ll get to do some of the most satisfying, exciting, and productive work of your career here.
Note that this is a hybrid role based in San Francisco—the whole team is in-person, in the office, four days a week.Your responsibilities
  • Set the vision for the user experience. Define interaction models, user task flows, and UI specifications that set the visual standards for our product.
  • Take broad ideas and turn them into clear, useful, and concrete product designs that address the needs of creators and brands.
  • Rapidly iterate on designs based on user testing, team feedback, and data insights.
  • Drive discussions to clarify requirements and eliminate ambiguity.
  • Think critically about product flows—digging into details, identifying edge cases, uncovering hidden second-order impacts, and otherwise thinking deeply about the user experience.
  • Collaborate closely with the founders and the engineering team to oversee the entire product lifecycle and multiple product launches.
  • Help make strategic decisions on the future direction of the product and the company.
  • Champion ongoing improvements to our product and user experience by staying informed about competitor products, industry trends, user needs, and gaps in our product.
What we’re looking for
  • 1 years of experience building, shipping, and iterating on features—in partnership with a product and engineering team—that encompass an end-to-end experience.
  • Experience launching MVP solutions quickly and with rapid iteration through design improvements.
  • Experience with interaction design (defining how an experience should behave based on user needs), visual design (typography, layout, iconography, color, and other graphic design principles), and prototyping (e.g., in Figma).
  • Great product sense that balances empathy for users, strong business acumen, and creative product design abilities.
  • Strong communication skills—able to communicate tradeoffs and ambiguity, and able to clearly articulate design decisions and the rationale.
  • An obsession with getting the details right, and a sense of pride and ownership over the product.
  • Flexible, adaptable, resilient—someone with a high level of self-awareness and a growth mindset.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience at an early-stage startup is highly preferred.
  • Experience with digital ad products or creator economy products is a plus.
  • Experience designing both consumer and enterprise products is a plus.
