POSITION SUMMARY

Atlanta-based opportunity for a passionate, patient-focused R&D Engineer who is motivated to join an innovative company focused on developing a novel transcatheter solution to patients suffering from secondary mitral valve disease.

Nyra Medical was founded to solve the complex challenges of Functional Mitral Regurgitation and has been dedicated to our lead product, the cardiac leaflet enhancer (CARLEN) which aims to revolutionize the current paradigm for transcatheter treatment of mitral valve disease. Once commercialized, CARLEN will significantly improve patients’ short-term and long-term overall health and survival.

This is a hands-on opportunity where the engineer will work closely as a part of the R&D engineering team to develop and execute design test methods, implement design refinements, and perform device testing. This role will enable the engineer to gain relevant industry experience pertaining to device development and structural heart procedures. The engineer will have the opportunity to develop design skills and act as an integral and contributing member of the development and testing team. The engineer will assist the team in execution of verification testing to facilitate the advancement of CARLEN into the clinical phase to improve the quality of life of patients suffering from secondary mitral regurgitation. The engineer will report to the Vice President of Product Development and will work directly with principal and senior product development engineers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conceptualize, develop, and iterate test equipment in response to specified design requirements.
  • Refinement of delivery systems or subsystem based on functional testing, mechanical testing, and/or simulated use.
  • Develop test methods for Design Verification testing, draft test procedures/reports, and support test method validations.
  • Provide documentation support and complete written reports on testing and designs.
  • Actively participate in design reviews and provide relevant feedback for teammates.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering.
  • Minimum of two internships or co-op experiences on product development teams in the medical device industry.
  • Previous internship / co-op experience with a large established medical device company is preferred.
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis and does not require sponsorship in the future for an employment visa.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to travel up to 20% required.
  • Strong analytical capability coupled with the ability to articulate your thoughts through technical writing and verbal communication.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment and/or autonomously with minimal direction.
  • Basic anatomical knowledge necessary to interact with clinicians.
  • Academic project, internship, or lab experience related to device development.
  • Experience with data analysis and basic statistics methods.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, organized, and possesses learning agility.
  • Proficient in drafting software (Solidworks preferred) to enable prototype manufacturing and testing.
  • Knowledge of medical device materials and processes: adhesives, plastics/polymers, metals, laser-cutting, braiding, 3D printing, CNC machining and lamination.
