Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer (Machining)

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Contract Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer to join our team. In this critical role, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing our machining processes and supporting growth and productivity.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with manufacturing personnel to develop, standardize, improve and document machining processes for CNC milling and turning operations.
  • Analyze production data to identify process inefficiencies and implement solutions to optimize cycle times, minimize waste, and improve overall productivity.
  • Lead and participate in lean manufacturing initiatives – 5S, VM, COR
  • Develop and implement work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and in process control plans for machining operations.
  • Manage and troubleshoot process-related issues on the shop floor, ensuring adherence to quality specifications.
  • Participate in the selection and implementation of new equipment and tooling for the machining shop.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to setup personnel and machine operators.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed engineering documentation related to machining processes.
  • Support NPI projects including process design, development and validation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, quality, purchasing) to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Uphold safety standards and maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Manufacturing Process Engineer or similar role in a machining environment, 10 years preferred in a precision machining environment. BS/AS engineering/technical degree preferred but experience in lieu considered.
  • Proven experience in CNC milling and turning operations, including programming, setup, and troubleshooting. Prefer hands on machining knowledge – apprenticeship or journeyman cert a plus.
  • Expert level in drawings and GD&T. Proficient in use of CAD (Solidworks preferred).
  • Knowledge in CAM (MasterCAM) software preferred.
  • Solid understanding of lean manufacturing principles and their application in a machining environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to process improvement.
  • Experience in developing and implementing work instructions, SOPs, and process control plans.
  • Effective communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong work ethic and a commitment to safety.
