About the role: We are looking for a superstar engineer to join our Unity team and help elevate our product. The ideal candidate is talented, driven, and excels in a fast-paced environment. As a Senior Unity Engineer you will manage the frontend development of the large, complex systems that power Astrocade’s gaming experience. Although this role is specifically for Unity, we greatly value full stack engineers who have general frontend and backend experience.

We are building a toolset and platform that allows creators to build their imagination - so you will have the opportunity to work on everything from hyper-optimized resource loading, to seamless UI/UX, multiplayer systems and interactions between AI and the game engine.

Responsibilities:

• Client development of complex features in Unity, involving collaboration with backend and AI teams.
• Design of state-of-the art architecture for gameplay and game systems.
• Continuous refactoring and improvement of codebase.
• Development and integration of testing frameworks.
• Setting high standards for the rest of the Unity team in terms of development practices and design.
• Tech lead/management: as the company grows there will be opportunities for distinguished employees to manage their own sub teams.

Requirements:

Necessary

• 3-5 years of Unity experience, ideally across core systems, gameplay, UI/UX, multiplayer.
• Thrives in a fast-paced, challenging environment where quality and speed are of the utmost importance.
• Strong growth mindset, ready to face the challenges of working at a young startup.
• Proactive and effective communicator with cross-functional partners to drive e2e features.

Good To Have: 

• Deep experience with rendering/graphics pipelines.
• Experience with resource loading in game engines.
• Knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience with scripting languages in game engines (JavaScript/Lua).
• Experience with JavaScript UI solutions (eg. Coherent Gameface).
• 1 years of experience with React/other web UI frameworks.
• Experience with mobile app development.
• 1 years of experience with backend technologies. AWS preferred.
• Multiplayer experience - whether that is directly in Unity or on another project (eg. MMO style games).
