POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Title: San Juan Development Association Economic Development Director

Reports to: San Juan Development Association Board of Directors

Job Summary

This part-time position of 20-25 hours a week is responsible for coordinating priority community and economic development projects as identified by the San Juan Development Association Board of Directors. The position will provide Town and County program capacity and supervise any staff working on identified projects, Main Street beautification and other priorities as may be identified moving forward.

This position is also responsible for positive community relations, and coordination with other organizations in addition to carrying out the mission of the San Juan Development Association, economic development programming, and growing organization sustainability. This position is expected to grow over time.

Skill/Knowledge Requirements

This person should have a degree and experience in a field related to economic development, or business with advanced oral and written communication skills. Requires a high degree of public and human relation skills. The position is physically located in Silverton, Colorado.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Become familiar with all aspects of the area’s resources and programs.
  • Produce and maintain a supply of accurate informational materials, utilize social media, websites and existing resources to be used in economic development activities.
  • Develop and maintain a list of business prospects and/or individuals who have expressed an interest in the area as a site for starting a business, expanding an existing business, or locating a new facility. Actively pursue all such prospective leads.
  • Provide appropriate information and regular reports on economic development activities to SJDA, and supporting government bodies as necessary.

· Attend, facilitate, and assist with meetings for the Board as well as designated committees. Responsible to ensure the provision of timely notice for meetings, location, and meeting minutes and reports.

· Identify business, economic and entrepreneurial rebuild initiatives, and the measures that should be taken to restore the economic vitality of affected areas.

· Oversee the budget and financials of SJDA including any nonprofit registration requirements, grant reporting and compliance.

· Work with Region 9 EDD on the SJDA Loan Program.

· Proactively develop other sources of funding for SJDA community including grant and program opportunities.

· Manage SJDA staff and oversee programs under their supervision.

· Define and promote the value of SJDA membership and be responsible for maintaining, engaging, and growing membership base and revenue per direction of the Board of Directors.

· Special projects – Work on special projects as opportunities arrive and as approved by the SJDA Board.

Essential Mental & Physical Demands:

Extensive computer work and sitting, public speaking, fast pace, multi-tasking, shared office, ability to drive, read, and have a normal range of vision and hearing. Must be able to climb stairs. Evening and weekend work may also be required.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $40.00 - $50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
