Position title: District Technician

Reports to: District Technology Coordinator

General qualifications:

Training/experience:

  • Preferred: AA degree, MCSA/MCSE, CCNA/CCNE or equivalent
  • Or a minimum of 5 years workplace experience
  • Google Certification (preferred)

Be reliable and efficient and conducting necessary technical repairs.

Be courteous, friendly, and willing to cooperate with fellow workers.

Possess a working knowledge of the technical aspects of the school /district technology applications 

Job Goal:

The job of District Technician was established for the purpose/s of installing, troubleshooting and maintaining computer hardware, telecommunication, audio visual and peripheral equipment; diagnosing and repairing hardware and network failures; providing technical support to teachers and administrators; and resolving school site operational issues

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Attends school site and departmental meetings for the purpose of providing and/or gathering information relating to job functions. 
  • Coordinates repair work schedules with School Technology Coordinator for the purpose of minimizing disruption of services and/or inconvenience. 
  • Diagnosis equipment failures with computer, network, and instructional media equipment for the purpose of identifying needed repairs and/or ensuring equipment is in proper working order. 
  • Installs computer hardware, peripherals, instructional media equipment, and application software for the purpose of maintaining overall site operations. 
  • Maintains manual and electronic documents, files and records (e.g. work order logs, inventory, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, conveying information and/or providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail. 
  • Monitors assigned servers and network applications for the purpose of ensuring continuity of service. 
  • Researches topics as necessary for the purpose of making recommendations regarding vendors to use for repairs and/or supplies. 
  • Works with School Technology Coordinator to order parts and other technology items as needed. 
  • Repairs computers, peripherals, network, and instructional media equipment for the purpose of maintaining equipment in a safe and functional operating condition. 
  • Responds to a variety of questions from site staff and students for the purpose of providing information, guidance or referral.
  • Transports supplies and equipment to a variety of sites for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items. 
  • Perform a variety of skilled and technical duties related to the installation, repair, and maintenance of computer workstation, printers, monitors, software, and other related peripheral devices.
  • Participate in technology training and workshops to stay current with the latest technology and support of that technology.
  • Inspect, isolate, and diagnose systems malfunctions and determine appropriate repair procedures, replace defective parts and restore to proper operation of equipment.
  • Install computer hardware systems and software, including upgrades and enhancements following District standards.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on printers and workstations including cleaning adjusting mechanical parts, checking cables, and testing devices for proper operation.
  • Move equipment to new locations as necessary.
  • Communicate with School Technology Coordinator regarding the repair and installation of computer equipment. 
  • Provide assistance, information, and technical expertise to faculty, administrators, and students regarding the safe and proper operation, care, and maintenance of equipment. 
  • Maintain records of computer and network repairs, materials used moving and installation activities and work orders; maintain records of maintenance, supplies used; maintain an adequate spare parts inventory.
  • Work with School Technology Coordinator to maintain and on-site and off-site inventory (including all related purchase data and IP numbers of workstations, printers, monitors, software, and related equipment).
  • Read, interpret, and implement technical support documents and manuals
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with others
  • Work independently with little direction
  • Lift heavy objects
  • Assist staff and students with the use of appropriate hardware and software 
  • Any and all duties in support of Technology maintenance as determined by the principal and / or District Technology Coordinator

Terms of Employment:

  • Hourly rate paid according to the District Technician salary schedule.
  • 200 days
