Our quarterly scientific journal The Microscope - an international peer-reviewed publication for microscopical research since 1937 - is looking for a skilled Editorial and Design Specialist. This individual will play a key role in designing and maintaining the layout of each issue and managing the overall production ensuring that the finished product which includes scholarly articles, columns, images, figures, tables, and other content, is accurately portrayed, well organized, visually appealing, and effectively communicates the message of the publication. There is opportunity to be creative, sophisticated, and innovative while balancing the journal’s existing look and feel.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience in layout design and production, preferably in a journal/magazine/newspaper/publishing environment or design agency.
• Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop required.
• Excellent attention to detail required.
• Thorough proofreading skills required.

Responsibilities

The Editorial and Design Specialist must be efficient with requests, edits, and timelines and adept in design software with an eye for typography, composition, and layout. Organization, attention to detail, and productive time management are essential to success. Quarterly design includes pagination, and layout of The Microscope journal articles, images, advertisements, and other visual elements. The final product is a 48-page, digitally processed, high quality, full-color printed 8.5” x 11”, PUR perfect bound journal that is shipped to subscribers and readers worldwide.
