Development Director

REPORTS TO: ASJ-US Deputy Executive Director

HOURS REQUIRED: This is a full-time position, 40 hours on week per average.

LOCATION: This position is based in Grand Rapids, MI. Hybrid team culture is well established.

COMPENSATION: Compensation and benefits to include the following: ● Salary: $55,000-$75,000 annual salary, paid monthly ● Paid Time Off (PTO): 24 days annual paid time off (PTO) and 10 holidays outlined at the beginning of each fiscal year. ● Health Insurance benefit package ● Simple IRA 3% retirement match at one year of employment ● Twelve weeks of parental leave

POSITION SUMMARY: The Development Director is responsible to design and implement a strategy for how we can engage deeper with existing and emerging communities of ASJ donors and supporters across the US. The position will have significant fundraising and development responsibilities, and will require up to 8 total trips throughout the US per year in addition to one annual trip to Honduras.

MISSION OF ASJ-US: We strive to be brave Christians dedicated to doing justice in Honduras and to inspiring others around the world to seek justice in their own contexts.

RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Strategy
  • Design and implement, in collaboration with the Deputy Executive Director, a strategy to engage deeper with existing ASJ communities across the US, working in alignment with our 10-year strategic plan ● Design and implement, in collaboration with the Deputy Executive Director, a strategy to engage with emerging cities and networks through donor prospecting/identification and cultivation working in alignment with our 10-year strategic plan to cultivate a diverse community of churches, businesses, organizations, and individuals and expand our community outside of our historical circles. ● Monitor, evaluate, and assess the effectiveness of the engagement strategy on an ongoing basis
  • Fundraising
  • Achieve target goals and Key Performance Indicators of donor retention and annual general donor revenue ● Implement fundraising efforts targeted to donors through strategies including but not limited to lapsed, new donors, golden donors, and monthly giving ● Coordinate day-to-day development strategies and activities to ensure their integration into the organization’s overall development program including maintaining detailed records of all donor contact. ● Research funding prospects and monitor prevailing grant and funding trends. ● Develop monthly and quarterly fundraising reports. ● Maintain individual donor relationships and identify and develop relationships with ASJ supporters and potential would-be supporters in order to maintain and grow the organization’s donor base. ● Steward timely follow ups, thank yous, and acknowledgements for donors and granting organizations.
  • Grant and Foundation Management
  • Supervise the development and preparation of grant proposals and reports to funders ● With Executive Director, identify foundation point of contact strategy ● Provide solicitation materials and other correspondence that may be necessary to carry out solicitations and cultivations with foundations ● Identify and help maintain relationships with foundations. This includes preparing necessary proposals and reports, and tracking activity to achieve objectives. ● Prospect new foundations and grant opportunities in collaboration with Executive Director
  • Events
  • Responsible for planning, oversight, and coordination of fundraising events in established cities including pre-cultivation work and follow up activities when the event has concluded. ● Responsible for planning, oversight, and coordination of fundraising events in new and emerging cities including pre-cultivation work and follow up activities when the event has concluded ● Publicly represent ASJ at fundraising events
  • General
  • Participation and communication with ASJ supporters to help promote the ASJ mission ● Actively participate on the Development Committee of the ASJ-US Board of Directors ● Interface with staff responsible for social media and communications strategy in order to better advance development goals

QUALIFICATIONS Characteristics that predict success in this position include:

The Development Director position requires 2-4 years of fundraising and development experience; the ability to develop and lead a community engagement strategy across the U.S.; and skills in donor prospecting, relations, stewardship, and recognition. The ability to travel throughout the U.S. for various donor meetings, events, and conferences as well as an annual trip to Honduras is required for this position – up to 8 trips per year. Given the nature of ASJ’s work, the Development Director position is expected to work well cross-culturally and virtually, and to have experience in incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities. Proficiency in English is required, and due to ASJ-US’s deep connection to Honduras, proficiency in Spanish is strongly preferred.
