The role of the Student Support Specialist is to serve as a frontline resource to any student in the building who could benefit from a positive adult relationship. The SSS will manage a caseload of students determined by the Child Study Team. The SSS will help with mentoring and counseling of students as needed. The SSS will also manage the Student Support Center (formerly ISS) environment during the day. The SSS will assist in coordinating the enforcement of handbook policies during the school day. The SSS will be responsible for scheduling, monitoring, and documenting detentions assigned for tardies, dress code, and other behaviors.

Before School

• The SSS will be present and visible in the hallways and other public areas of the building from 7:45 until 8:00 when not meeting directly with students.
• focus on caseload students to include check-in/check-out 
• Assist students in arriving to class on time
• Assist in cafeteria area supervision as available

During School

• The SSS will maintain a productive learning environment in the SSC. 
• Administration will, as needed, assign students to the SSC for the purposes of in-school suspension.
• The SSS will be called upon to provide student-specific support when students are assigned to the SSC including but not limited to:
• Facilitating communication between the office and the student’s teachers
• Provide increased intervention for our most at-risk students
• Refer students to Child Study as appropriate
• Implement restorative practices for student behaviors
• Work with PBIS leads to identify behavior objectives and help to create a plan for success
• SSS will help to coordinate paperwork related to student behavior choices
• The SSS will be present and visible in the hallways and other public areas of the building unless meeting directly with students.
• The SSS will supervise students who are assigned to the SSC during lunch.
• The SSS will coordinate detentions after school with the Assistant Principal. 
• The SSS will meet on a weekly basis with the Child Study team to review caseload students and current progress.
• The SSS will perform other duties as assigned by the Administration

Qualifications:

• Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with all learners and staff
• Ability to work with staff and students in occasionally tense situations.
• Ability to make in-the-moment decisions and work through multiple situations at the same time
• Confidence and ability to assist students with academic work 
• Ability to work with a team in order to allow students to succeed at their highest potential
• High School graduate
• Some college preferred
