Semiconductor Industry Association is Hiring a Director of Industry Research and Economic Policy Near Washington, DC

SIA is seeking candidates for the position of Director of Industry Research and Economic Policy. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing SIA’s industry research, statistics, and data analysis in support of advocacy for the industry’s policy priorities. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to become a publicly recognized thought leader on semiconductor industry, market, and policy trends, and help shape the technology policy debate.

The director is responsible for leading SIA’s research and economic analysis program, including producing data-focused reports and white papers to support SIA’s advocacy, analyzing and summarizing market trends, and maintaining updated and accurate statistics on the U.S. and global industry. The work will also entail successfully collaborating with SIA members and staff and other stakeholders to shape messaging on the importance of the U.S. semiconductor industry, as well as engaging with industry, government, think tank/academic, and other third-party validators to foster collaboration and promote the U.S. semiconductor industry. The director is also responsible for successfully managing and growing SIA’s market data subscription program and managing interactions with existing and potential subscribers. The director will report to the Vice President for Government Affairs but will support the entire SIA team.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

External Research Reports and Data Compilation:

  • Work with SIA member committees and SIA leadership in producing economic and market research data, reports, and studies to further public policy messaging regarding the semiconductor industry’s impact.
  • Work with SIA member committees and SIA leadership to update existing company surveys and implement new surveys as needed.
  • Identify outside resources and foster collaboration with third party sources and validators both in the government and in the private sector.

Data Analysis and Policy Related Requests:

  • Monitor and analyze industry trends and share insights with SIA staff and membership.
  • Update public policy data-related presentation materials with current industry statistics and end market data.
  • Respond to internal and external data analysis as needed.
  • Assist in providing relevant data for association advocacy documents, presentations, comments on legislative and regulatory matters, and other submissions.
  • Support SIA participation in government and industry events.
  • Conduct industry surveys and compile results.

Manage SIA Sales Data and Subscriptions:

  • Responsible for managing and growing World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) subscriber base, including timely release of monthly bluebook and bi-annual forecast.
  • Responsible for analysis of monthly, quarterly and annual semiconductor sales, and shaping message with regard to end markets, capital expenditures, macroeconomic environment and other factors impacting semiconductor sales in conjunction with the SIA’s statistics committee input.
  • Support Communications Department in drafting of press releases and talking points and help engage in follow-up to inquiries.

Manage SIA Engagement in the WSTS

  • Active participation in the WSTS meetings in the U.S. and around the world.
  • Assist in strengthening WSTS statistics and participation.

Public Events

  • Organize regular webinars on matters related to the semiconductor industry
  • Participate at conferences and other external events to represent SIA and the industry as a whole

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Required background: Degree in business, economics, policy, technology or related analytical discipline; graduate degree preferred. Experience in and/or knowledge of the semiconductor or other high-tech industry, along with government experience, a plus.

Experience: 5-10 years of experience in analytical/quantitative/research/policy role related to markets in the technology industry.

Required skills:

  • Excellent analytical skills and demonstrated ability to ascertain data trends
  • Good understanding of readily available government/private data sources related to trade, labor, and other statistics relevant to the industry
  • Strong interpersonal skills including consensus building with association members, interacting with industry analysts, and external meetings on statistics and research
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills – including ability to work with internal staff and communicate with external audiences
  • Careful attention to detail and thoughtful analysis
  • Ability to produce reports based on an examination of trends and compile presentation material support SIA’s domestic and global policy priorities

Projected Salary

Pursuant to the D.C. “Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act of 2023,” we project an annual salary for this position of $150,000 – 225,000, plus a competitive benefits package.
