Title: MEP Special Inspector

Reports to: Group Leader

Classification: Full-Time, Exempt

Position Overview:

Skyline Engineering, a Business Unit of AMA Group is looking for an MEP Special Inspector. We are seeking a highly skilled MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) Inspector to join our team. You will be playing an essential role in our team, ensuring every project we undertake observes the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.

Role Responsibilities:

As an MEP Special Inspector. Your primary responsibility will be performing inspections and testing on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in various construction projects to ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and standards. You will play a critical role in maintaining the quality and safety of our projects. In your role, you will:

• Conduct inspections of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations following relevant codes and project specifications
• Review and interpret construction plans, specifications, and applicable codes
• Document inspection results, including any discrepancies, and communicate findings to project stakeholders
• Witness testing on MEP systems, including but not limited to, duct and piping pressure testing, sprinkler system testing, and HVAC system performance
• Ensure that all work is performed in compliance with the building code, safety regulations and industry standards
• Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other team members to resolve any issues or discrepancies identified during inspections
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of inspections and tests performed
• Provide technical guidance and support to junior inspectors and construction personnel

Requirements

Education : Bachelor’s degree in engineering required, or four years of related experience

Experience:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in field MEP inspections or a related field
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and applicable codes (e.g., NYC Building Code, NFPA, ASHRAE, and mechanical code.
• Certification as an MEP inspector or relevant qualifications (e.g., ICC certification, Commercial Mechanical Inspector, Commercial Energy Inspector, NICET, NFPA) is preferred
• Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
• Proficiency in using inspection tools and equipment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Skyline Engineering, Special inspectors are third party licensed professional engineers and architects who oversee the construction and sign off of your project. Special inspection agencies are required to be hired by the owner and are required for every single permitted project in New York City. We provide all levels of special inspection services from the superstructure to fit out including structural steel, welding, concrete, masonry, and spray fireproofing, mechanical, energy, sprinkler, and fire-stopping.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but is not limited to, relevant experience, time in the role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.
