VACANCY: At present there is one (1) vacancy with the Seneca County Mental Health Department.
RESIDENCY: Candidates must have been legal residents of Seneca County or one of the six (6) contiguous counties for one (1) month preceding the date of application. Preference in appointment may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality in which appointment is to be made for at least one (1) month prior to the date of certification and are residents of such municipality at the time of appointment.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative Only):
· Identifies youth and adults that express or possess psychological and possibly socioeconomic attributes that have led or may lead to substance abuse;
· Develops and presents specialized technical workshops and general awareness community education programs to target messaging at specifically vulnerable populations including youth, parents as influencers on youth, family members of problem gamblers, individuals and families with substance abuse disorders, college students, low income residents and aging adults.
· Conducts outreach and education at multiple sites including but not limited to: school districts, the casino, senior centers, retirement Community events, summer camps, Family Education Programs, Crime Victims Assistance Program, Domestic Violence Services, and Domestic Abuse Awareness Classes. etc.
· Analyzes individual clients problems, and develops short/long range counseling (treatment goals) and alternate strategies and diversion techniques;
· May be required to make immediate psychological and supportive reinforcement to clients in crisis intervention situations;
· May develop and implement education/intervention/counseling techniques involving the client, his/her peers, family members and others;
· Provides professional consultation services to other agencies as indicated.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either
1. Completion of all required course work leading to a master’s degree in psychology, social work or very closely related field plus one year of counseling experience or;
2. Graduation from an accredited NYS registered or regionally accredited 4 year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science or behavioral science or related field and 2 years of experience in counseling;
3. An equivalent combination of training and experience as described above.
NOTE: Documented part-time or volunteer experience will be accepted on a prorated basis.
ADDITIONAL: CPS/CPP/CASAC credential required within 24 months of appointment and maintained throughout employment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ACCEPTANCE OF APPLICATIONS:
Possession of a valid New York State Driver’s License is required, and must be maintained throughout employment.
