Central Office Accomack County Schools is Hiring an Attendance Clerk Near Accomac, VA

This is a 10 month position. Two indivdiduals are needed. One for the Northern end of the school district - and one for the Southern end of the school district.

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the principal, performs a variety of functions related to the accurate collecting and reporting of attendance and the maintenance of student records at the school site.

Essential Duties:

  • Maintains necessary records ensuring confidentiality of students and their families and prepares related reports.
  • Record daily attendance using designated software or manual.
  • Maintains logs and other documentation verifying absences.
  • Ensures that attendance for tardy students is recorded accurately.
  • Verify the accuracy of attendance records and make any necessary corrections.
  • Communicate with students and families regarding attendance policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with school administrators and school counselors to address attendance-related concerns.
  • Assist in the implementation of attendance improvement initiatives, such as incentive programs or interventions for chronic absenteeism.
  • Provide support and guidance to individuals who may require assistance with attendance tracking or understanding attendance policies.
  • Prepares accurate student absence lists for teachers and administrators.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians to find out reasons for student absence.
  • Contact parents/guardians by phone or letter to schedule attendance meetings as needed.
  • Issues absence admit and tardy slips to students.
  • Attends attendance meetings when scheduled with parents, school administrators, and the Coordinator of Student Services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in office administration or related field is a plus.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, such as Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and discretion when dealing with sensitive information.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Facility to sit at a desk or conference room for extended periods of time.
  • Make decisions using sound judgment and evaluate results.
  • Take accurate notes and document accordingly in power school.
