Job Title: Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher
Location: Alexandria, Virginia
Position Type: Full-time, Contract
Job Description:Seeking a dynamic and passionate Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in family and consumer sciences education and a commitment to fostering students' personal, academic, and career development.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement engaging curriculum aligned with Virginia state standards for Family and Consumer Sciences at the middle school level.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports students' individual growth and development.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including hands-on activities, labs, and technology, to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Foster students' leadership skills through participation in school-based or virtual enterprises, job shadowing, internships, cooperative education, and/or the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).
  • Provide opportunities for students to explore personal and career goals, financial management, clothing maintenance, food preparation, positive relationships, and self-assessment.
  • Integrate mathematics, science, English, social sciences, fine arts, and technology into Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote cross-curricular connections and enhance student learning experiences.
  • Assess student progress and provide timely feedback to support their academic growth and achievement.
  • Participate in professional development activities to stay current with best practices in family and consumer sciences education.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other stakeholders to support students' success in the classroom and beyond.
Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education or related field (Master's degree preferred).
ServSafe and Food Handling Certificate preferred
Valid Virginia teaching license with endorsement in Family and Consumer Sciences (or eligibility to obtain licensure).
Prior Teaching Experience At The Middle School Level Preferred.Knowledge of Virginia state standards for Family and Consumer Sciences.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Job DescriptionThe Teacher facilitates student success in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum specifically for Culinary Arts program; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students' providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
Qualifications:Education: Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred.
Certificates & Licenses:
  • Valid Virginia Department of Education license required with endorsement in Culinary Arts or Family and Consumer Science program area, or eligibility to obtain one.
  • ServSafe and Food Handling Certification preferred.
Other Qualifications:
  • Must have at least two years of experience in the culinary arts area.
  • Must have the knowledge and experience to systematically plan, execute and evaluate individual and group instruction.
  • Must be able to organize and manage appropriate classroom instruction.
  • Must possess excellent organizational, communications, public relations and planning skills.
  • The ability to work independently and accomplish established instructional objectives during the school year is essential.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships and work in a collaborative manner with administrators, supervisors, co-workers and parents.
  • Must be knowledgeable of innovative, nontraditional teaching strategies that have proven successful with students from diverse backgrounds performing at different academic levels.
  • Some experience with Microsoft Office, online learning management software, Internet and Intranet is required.
Essential Functions
  • Responsible for all purchasing for the Culinary Arts program.
  • Responsible for coordination repairs of kitchen equipment with Lead Administrator of Operations and Student Support.
  • Responsible for coordination with the Director of CTE and Lead Administrator of Operations and Student Support to purchase replacement equipment.
  • Responsible for the program instructional supplies budget.
  • Responsible for turning in monthly financial P-card documentation.
  • Responsible for implementing the Culinary courses per the VDOE CTE Skills and Competencies.
  • Responsible for writing and updating curriculum as needed to include lesson plans,recipes,cleaning schedules and any other documents to support the class as needed.
  • Coordinate events with the administration as needed for the program.
  • Provides individual and group instruction to students assigned to culinary arts/food occupations classes.
  • Prepares lesson plans, organizes materials, develops assessments, supervises assigned students and implements instruction according to course curriculum.
  • Develops a program to provide students with hands-on experience with nutritional program development, appropriate preparation, presentation and accountability of food products and health and sanitation requirements on site.
  • Ensures that students develop skills for employment and state certification for an entry-level position in food occupations.
  • Manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instruction as required.
  • Develops in each student an awareness and understanding coupled with the basic skills and knowledge applicable to a food occupation.
  • Instills in each student safe working habits, the importance of continuation of his education and the development of successful work ethics of reliability, competence, loyalty, and dependability.
