Northwest Texas Physicians Network is Hiring a Referral Specialist Near Amarillo, TX

Responsibilities:
ABOUT NORTHWEST PHYSICIANS GROUP
Northwest Physicians Group formed in 2013 with a focus towards population health management. The group has grown to a network of over 40 providers serving patients at numerous primary, specialty, and urgent care locations in and around Amarillo, Texas. Northwest Physicians Group is affiliated with Northwest Texas Healthcare System, a 495-bed system acute care hospital that serves approximately 650,000 residents of the Texas Panhandle and surrounding region. The system provides acute care services including cardiac, pediatric, women’s, emergency, surgical and behavioral healthcare.
Position Summary: Referral Specialist
  • Processes both internal and external referral requests and assists in properly navigating patients into the multi-specialty clinic from external
    referral sources / emergency rooms / patients.
  • Accurately registers and schedules patients pursuant to established protocols for Northwest
    Texas Physician Group providers.
  • Contacts referring providers and patients to efficiently and thoroughly complete patient pre-registration
    criteria and communicate scheduled appointments.
  • Monitors incoming medical records and third party communication and routes to providers /
    medical assistants or Practice Manager as appropriate.
  • Scans and properly indexes medical records into EMR system.
  • Responds to requests for medical records according to clinic policy.
  • Conducts verification of eligibility for new patients and communicates clinic’s expectation of payment at time of service – may collect co-payments and co-insurance at time of scheduling.
  • Generate weekly and monthly reports.
  • Makes reminder calls for scheduled appointments.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Willingly accepts other assignments when requested.
  • May travel between facilities when requested.

Qualifications:

Required Knowledge, Skills, Licensure, Training & Travel Requirements (if applicable):

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer certification or training as an Administrative Medical Assistant
  • Minimum of 2 years in a medical office setting or hospital admissions/scheduling department involving patient registration, scheduling, verification of benefits and customer service
  • Knowledgeable in the proficient use and application of an EMR system
  • Acute healthcare knowledge with understanding of clinical terminology and medical office proccess, medical insurance billing/managed care, and HIPAA privacy standards
  • Strong interpersonal communication with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Typing and strong computer skills required. Proficiency in MS Office applications
  • Ablility to provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers
  • Ability to quickly and accurately process and key data in and EMR
  • Must be able to evaluate clinical data in order to properly process patient referrals
