Lamar Institute of Technology is Hiring a Campus Safety Officer Near Beaumont, TX

Job Summary:
The Campus Safety Officer’s job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, using foot patrol to provide service, information and aid to all campus students, employees and visitors as circumstances require, deter crime though constant uniformed presence, assist and support victims of crime, if applicable and when directed by a supervisor, intake and prepare non-criminal reports, and observe and report safety issues on campus. This individual is responsible for safety and welfare of students, faculty, staff, visitors and all property under the control and jurisdiction of Lamar Institute of Technology and is expected to exercise independent judgement and discretion within the limits prescribed by the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Regents and LIT rules and regulations. The Campus Safety Office will also serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). This is a non-exempt staff appointment and reports to the Director of Safety.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Performs security and safety duties on the property of Lamar Institute of Technology
  • Preserves safety and security by interceding to prevent or deter crime
  • Investigate non-criminal incidents to detect safety or security issues, including loss of property
  • Prepare various written reports narrating incidents and provide supplemental information, as needed, on criminal activities
  • Give credible and accurate testimony in criminal court, if required
  • Provide assistance and support to the victims of crime, and to all student, faculty, staff and visitors to the LIT Campus
  • Use a portable battery system to jump start vehicles, put air in tires, assist in vehicle unlocks and occasionally change flat tires
  • Works daytime, evening, and weekend shifts as scheduled
  • Perform other related duties, as needed
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to: constantly move about the facilities, including the outdoors. Occasionally ascend/descend stairs for patrol of the buildings, occasionally position self to assist students and staff with vehicle needs, the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able exchange accurate information in these situations. The ability to move/transport items up to 50 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certified Level III Commissioned Security Officer
