Manufacturing Engineer – Automation/Machining

Summary:

Our client is a premier tier 1 supplier who is looking to add a Manufacturing Engineer – Automation/Machining to their team. This position develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards for machining and automation; recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls.

The Manufacturing Engineer – Automation/Machining must have a minimum of internship or co-op experience in a related field.

Manufacturing Engineer – Automation/Machining Job Requirements:

  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Preferred Training: Computer assisted design (CAD) proficiency, Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field, CNC Programming

Manufacturing Engineer – Automation/Machining Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Must take necessary action to minimize delay time and maximize production.
  • Carries out process improvement, problem resolution, and assists with project management.
  • Improves manufacturing processes and methods with goal of cost-reductions, quality improvements and increased labor efficiencies
  • Performs research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment
  • Designs, develops and tests, and cost-justifies various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods
  • Determine suitable perishable tooling and durable tooling alternatives
  • Writes new and /or makes modifications to existing CNC cutting tool programs
  • Complete set-up sketches to be used by set-up personnel as needed
  • Participate in Advanced Product Quality Planning sessions with project team to ensure process flows, process Failure Mode Effects Analysis, and control plans are properly developed and implemented
  • Represents engineering on cross-functional teams
  • Performs miscellaneous work assignments as directed
  • Automation/Machining
  • Design fixtures for machining processes to be more efficient
  • Collaborate with vendors to ensure products are tested, completed and returned
  • Programs robot for new part processing
  • Operate and Maintain 3D machine, build schedule, prioritize test prints and provide projected completion date of projects
  • Perform post-processing work and quality control inspections on 3D printed parts
  • Maintain a running inventory of parts printed and tests performed with associated data for modeling
  • Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs when needed
  • Performs miscellaneous work assignments as directed
