The Role

Exposure is looking for a Senior Account Director with 8 years’ experience to lead its portfolio of lifestyle brands, inclusive of The New York Times, 1800 Tequila and Polaroid. This person will play a key, senior role within the Comms team of 8-10 individuals, working into the Head of Comms and in partnership with another Senior Account Director leading the Fashion portfolio to drive overall department and business growth. We’re looking for someone who is a proven strategic leader, with a passion for earned creative ideation, exceptional client leadership skills and the ability to direct large, integrated campaigns. 

Account Directors at Exposure play a vital role in developing creative and strategic plans for clients. They are the key day-to-day interface between the comms team, the client and all other agency departments or affiliated partners. They are true client partners, committed to learning and understanding everything they need to know about the client’s business and challenges to help them reach their objectives. They are tuned into the media landscape and culture to deliver ideas that are insight-driven, smart and effective. Account Directors are solution-oriented, always anticipating issues, and implementing the agency’s vision to produce exceptional results. 

Responsibilities:

Creativity

  • Works in partnership with our Comms, Creative and Strategy team to deliver best in class insight-driven earned ideas that cut through
  • Develops and defends innovative and provocative strategies to solve their client’s marketing and communication needs, both in the short and long term 
  • Demonstrates excellent creative judgment and inspires creativity in their clients and agency team 
  • Protects the creative integrity of the agency and work whilst understanding the client needs and guardrails

Productivity

  • Ability to take large, complex campaigns from early ideation and scope development, through to execution and delivery
  • Understands how to manage internal resource, making sure people on their team are fully utilized, yet not over-extended 
  • Strong understanding of how to build project timelines, budgets, scopes and status documents to keep projects moving on track and clients aware of key delivery deadlines
  • Mentors and trains team in how to lead and execute projects

Leadership

  • Builds trust with both internal team members and departments and clients through effective, clear and regular communications
  • Knows how to deal with difficult clients or situations in a diplomatic and solution-oriented manner focusing on the issue and not personalities 
  • Uses editorial judgment to guide and shape creative ideas pitches, and campaigns
  • Has the ability to see around corners and listens keenly to clients to champion high profile client business goals
  • Lead by example for internal junior team members
  • Manages up; knows when to involve senior management and when to handle a situation themself 

Business

  • Strong understanding of agency profitability, building budgets and staff plans that reflect the work required to deliver
  • Ability to upsell other agency services and skills 
  • Confident in having difficult conversations about scope creep, budgets and services
  • Ability to lead integrated agency pitches with an internal creative, comms, production and strategy teams

Relationships & Media Landscape

  • Has a black book of senior editors, agents and influencers that will help drive the success of earned media campaigns and client retainers
  • Understands the modern media landscape and delivers smart, innovative communications strategies to clients that go beyond publicity
  • Builds solid Comms Launch Strategies and can mentor teams to do the same
  • Ability to negotiate talent and influencer contracts (in partnership with legal and a VIP & Influencer Senior Manager)
  • Ability to work with brand and agency partners

Qualifications

  • 8 years of experience in comms/account management at a large creative communications agency
  • Proven experience in managing multiple clients, is comfortable building integrated campaigns and leading diverse teams 
  • Broad range of experience in managing large Comms retainers and complex integrated projects with an earned output
  • Solid reputation amongst clients, media contacts and agency partners
  • Demonstrated financial responsibility and management
