The Role:
Moderna is on the lookout for a Senior Manager, Tax to become an integral part of our Tax team. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to Moderna’s growing global finance organization, supporting our mission to revolutionize the biotech industry with rapid growth. Positioned in our LEED-certified headquarters in Cambridge, MA, this role blends on-site collaboration (70% of the time) with the flexibility of remote work, emphasizing our dynamic and innovative work environment.
In this critical role, the Senior Manager, Domestic Tax will not only ensure Moderna’s compliance with domestic tax obligations but also contribute to our broader mission of delivering transformative medicines. This position is designed for a tax professional who is eager to take on challenges, drive efficiency, and support a high-growth, transformational company.
Here’s What You’ll Do:
Engage in the preparation and review of quarterly and annual tax provision computations, focusing on domestic taxation elements to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Navigate complex tax reporting standards such as ASC 740 and FIN 48, applying these to various scenarios to determine appropriate tax accounting measures.
Conduct thorough tax analysis relevant to the company’s financial forecasts and business plans, aligning tax strategy with Moderna’s broader objectives.
Manage the preparation of U.S. federal and state income tax returns and interface with various external providers, establishing a robust compliance process and timeline.
Support the indirect tax compliance function, including the review of excise, withholding tax and other indirect tax returns, to uphold our commitment to full compliance.
Assist with U.S. federal and state audit processes, responding to tax notices and maintaining clear, accurate records.
Participate in special projects and perform ad-hoc analyses to support departmental and company-wide initiatives, demonstrating flexibility and a forward-thinking approach.
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in one of the following (Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, Taxation, or a related field)
8 years of direct tax compliance, tax accounting, and tax audit management experience at a Big 4 public accounting firm or multinational company
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors in Accounting, Masters in Tax, or an equivalent degreeTax experience in biopharma or life sciences industries
Ability to operate in a fast paced, ever-changing environment, excellent prioritization skills
Strong organizational skills, able to multitask and meet ambitious deadlines
Strong written and verbal communication/presentation skills
Self-motivated and ability to collaborate with a global team
Excellent MS excel skills and experience with large data sets
Empathetic and respectful interpersonal skills
SAP experience, big plus
High ethical standards, integrity and strength of character in their personal and professional dealings and a willingness to act on and be accountable for their decisions
