The State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services, Disability Determination Unit, has a full time vacancy for Case Aide.

Summary:

Provides administrative support to the record collection process required for the determination of medical disability. This position is assigned to the Disability Determination Unit (DDU) and reports to the Unit Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

Receives applications for disability from the local District Offices and reviews for completeness

Utilizes multiple database applications including New Heights and AIM in verifying information on applicants

Logs pertinent information from the paper application into a database for tracking purposes

Initiates the record collection process by requesting medical information from listed health care providers on the application and includes a release of information from the applicant/applicant’s family with the written request

Manages, tracks, and monitors the receipt of medical information and contacts health care providers who have not submitted requested medical information to assure completeness of case files

Prepares case files for the Disability Nurse Reviewers when record collection process is complete for case development

Tracks disposition of the case file from the Disability Nurse Reviewer to the Physician assigned to the Medical Review Team

Types pre-denial and denial letters prepared by the Medical Review Team

Responds to questions and provides information to applicant/applicant’s family about the status of the application, what additional information is needed as well as explains the pre-denial and denial process. Documents all contacts into a database

Provides resource information and makes referrals to other State and community resources with permission on behalf of applicant/applicant’s family

Prepares service utilization and management reports for Unit Administrator for monitoring of operations

Supervises clerical support staff assigned to State Office filing project and assures the file room does not constitute a fire hazard

Consults with supervisory staff concerning non-routine questions in order to relay accurate information to callers

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Possession of an Associate's degree or completion of two years at a recognized college or university. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Two years' experience in the field of social welfare in a position such as child care worker, teacher's aide, therapist assistant in a rehabilitation program, or public health aide in a health agency. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education

License/Certification: Possession of a valid driver's license and/or have access to transportation for statewide travel.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: For appointment consideration, Case Aide applicants must successfully participate in a structured interview measuring possession of knowledge, skills and abilities identified as necessary for satisfactory job performance by this class specification. The structured interview is developed and administered, according to Division of Personnel guidelines, by representatives of the state agency in which the vacancy exists.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Accurate keyboarding skills of at least 40 words per minute preferred. Competent in PC-based applications, including Word, Excel and Lotus Notes. General understanding of Medicaid policies and procedures, and knowledge of the New Heights eligibility system and/or the Medicaid Management Information System desirable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to applicants fluent in Spanish and English.
