Classification Summary:Manages all computer operations including budget, personnel, projects, development, helpdesk, procurement of hardware and software to support the IT needs of a medium size unit or department.
Classification Standard Duties:Makes significant decisions that impact a wide range of multi-platform integrated systems regarding day-to-day activities of a unit or department. Responsible for managing IT budget, perform budget analysis, and strategic planning, administrative tasks. Manages the hardware/networking for the department. Performs maintenance programming on the mainframe; acts as a backup server administration, database administration, and mainframe backup. Administers policies and procedures as they relate to the function. Manages IT Resources.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
This is a working director level position responsible for the leadership and
coordination of the information technology (IT) services of the college as well as
active involvement in the day-to-day IT operations of the college. It and has primary
responsibility for short and long-range planning of the college’s technical
infrastructure to ensure that it supports current and future strategic, academic and
operational goals. The IT services span across 6 campuses/sites – East Mesa,
Espina, Workforce, Gadsden, Sunland Park and Chaparral. The position provides
oversight to the management of the college’s LAN and WAN networks, wireless
network, Cisco VOIP phone system and related functions, servers and data storage,
M365 cloud, Active Directory, office and classroom computer technology, computer
open labs and all computer, computer-related, software and cloud purchases.
Provides planning, budgeting, leadership and supervision to the IT department;
works with executive administration to communicate and establish future IT needs
based on college’s strategic goals; works with administration, faculty and IT staff to
establish standards for classroom computing and network requirements; coordinates
IT services for new and remodeled campus buildings; member of NMSU IT and data
security and governance committees; establishes and maintains college’s IT disaster
recovery plan; provides project management for new technology deployments or
upgrades.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree Preferred
Broad knowledge of computer systems, servers, data storage systems, computer
and network security, IT security and auditing best practices, systems and network
administration, virtual technologies, and telecommunication/VOIP systems.
Familiarity with Cisco, VMWare, Microsoft products. Technical knowledge and
analytical skills to identify complex system issues and coordinate an effective
resolution.
