Summary Of ResponsibilitiesDirects the safety activities that ensure the project teams maintain compliance with appropriate rules, regulations and codes, including activities associated with nuclear safety, radiation safety, chemical safety, industrial safety and emergency preparedness. Works with the Site Safety Manager and the Compliance manager to ensure consistent interpretations of appropriate requirements. Has the authority to shut down project operations if they appear to be unsafe, and must consult with the site compliance team with respect to restart of shutdown operations after the deficiency, or unsatisfactory condition, has been resolved.
Has a strong dotted line report to the Head of Strategic Projects to ensure the successful delivery of safety performance across the portfolio of projects being delivered by the group.
Education And ExperienceThe ideal candidate will have a Bachelor s degree from an accredited University in a engineering or scientific discipline and at least 10 years of related experience in industrial and construction safety.

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Familiar with Documentum, and SAP.
  • Attention to detail essentials with aptitude for strong demonstration of correct grammar.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team-oriented group environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
Job Details
  • The work location for this position is Urenco USA, Eunice, NM.
  • Work Schedule: Professional work schedule/ with minimal night/ weekend support. Some nights and weekend work may be required. Employees are also subject to call-outs as needed.
  • Travel Required: 25% of the time or less as required.
  • Security Clearance Requirement: Controlled Access Area (CAA) Access and an L or Q level security clearance is required.
  • Work Environment: Radiological exposure expectations of < 100 mrem/yr. General Office, Plant Production Areas. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets etc.
    Primary Functions
    • Develop all URENCO USA construction Safety Programs to ensure compliance with Licensing Basis Documents and Federal and State regulatory requirements as well as applicable permits. (All references to safety mean chemical safety, radiation safety and industrial safety.)Support audits, surveillances, inspections, and assessments by quality assurance and external regulating organizations.
    • Develop, maintain and manage the construction safety program necessary to meet requirements of corporate policies and to maintain compliance with all federal, state, county or local health and safety regulations. Analyze unsafe conditions and assist in developing corrective action plans.
    • Effectively manage and lead the Strategic Projects HSE department by appropriately delegating tasks and ensuring follow-through, monitoring employee performance and taking corrective action when necessary, and fostering an environment of teamwork and cooperation.
    • Perform independent reviews of Group Project activities to ensure consistent interpretation of all safety activities and compliance with all appropriate rules, regulations and codes as well as preparing reports and taking necessary steps to ensure any potential problems are rectified.
    • Manage an accurate filing system for safety and emergency preparedness records and reports for Group Projects.
    • Manage and direct the work of professionals who have direct responsibility for ensuring Group Projects compliance with safety.
    • Support facility and operations change control reviews.
    • Arrange, coordinate, supervise and may present all Federal and State required safety training related to construction and activities undertaken by Group Projects.
    • Assist executive management and site based compliance teams with reporting of non-compliance events to federal, state, county or local regulatory agencies.
    • Establish and maintain working relationships with external safety professionals to ensure best practices are implemented.
    • Support the site Safety Review Committee.
    • Establish and maintain working relationships with off-site emergency support agencies, including local, state and federal government authorities.
    • Ensure the safety and construction programs incorporate industry best practices.
    • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
