Job DescriptionThe Payroll Specialist II performs various duties and responsibilities in support of the Payroll Department, including preparing, processing and proving the Company's payroll using the payroll system. This job processes employee verifications (limited to those that are not processed by outsourced provider), entering of payroll exception data, and the accuracy earnings and deduction records in the payroll system. The work performed by this job is in accordance to standard policies and procedures and according to applicable regulatory guidelines. The Payroll Specialist II researches, resolves and addresses routine employee questions and issues.
Depth & Scope
  • Processes employee verifications, employee changes (that are not processed by the outsourced provider), exception pay data entry and earnings and deduction records in the payroll system
  • Manages and processes more complex transactions such as garnishments, severance, and award payments
  • Verifies accuracy of data entered through audit reporting
  • Researches and resolves moderately complex payroll problems
  • Work is performed according to standard policies and procedures and according to applicable regulatory guidelines
  • Performs audits on data entered and makes appropriate adjustments
  • Verifies changes based on paperwork received and resolves discrepancies
  • Responds to inquiries from employees and management regarding payroll issues
  • Researches payroll
  • Resolves moderately complex issues, referring the most complex issues to more experienced staff
  • May assist less experienced staff with payroll research and inquiries as needed
  • May provide training to new employees as appropriate
  • Verifies routing of payroll materials to ensure proper distribution
  • May generate standard and ad hoc reports for management review and analysis
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or the equivalent combination of education and work experience required
  • 2-3 years related Payroll experience required
  • Solid understanding of payroll procedures
  • Proven attention to detail
  • Excellent data entry and customer service skills
  • Strong ability to work well under pressure while maintaining strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of basic accounting preferred
