Position Summary

The Accounting Manager is responsible for the coaching and development of the Accounting team members while overseeing the operations of the Accounting Department; including adherence to generally accepted accounting principles, practices and regulatory requirements.

Position Competencies

  1. Coaching: Develop each employee to their highest potential by identifying areas for improvement and celebrating strengths. Demonstrate enthusiastic support or corporate purpose, core values and long-term objectives and educate team members on our 'why'.   4. Role Mastery of Essential Duties: Able to perform essential duties as outlined in job description. Contributes productivity and value within role. Is willing to learn and improve performance.
  • Manages the Accounting department operational functions. Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising work; rewards and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Manage the Payments team operational functions including ACH receipt and origination, domestic and international wires, and EFT transactions including the oversight of policies, procedures, evaluation of risk, and ensuring compliance.
  • Provide communication, effective training, coaching and mentoring techniques to all team members to promote engagement, and to ensure individual goals and growth targets of the credit union are met.
  • Oversee and coordinate month end processes to ensure the accuracy of calculations and posting of accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, and other items required to provide an accurate presentation of monthly and annual financial reports.
  • Analyze financial information detailing assets, liabilities and capital and oversees preparation of balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize current credit union financial condition.
  • Support the annual budget preparation through stakeholder discussions; inputting data and forecasting costs in Budget Software to ensure proper calculation of expenditures, income, shares, and loans for multiple business units.
  • Review and approval of all GL reconciliations monthly, quarterly, as required; utilizing FloQast or other tools employed for this purpose.
  • Work with internal auditors, external auditors, and examiners, to coordinate preparation of necessary documentation and responses to inquiries.
  • Oversee regulatory reporting including Escheats, quarterly Call Report, annual IRS Forms 945, 1099/1098, 990 and required IRA reporting.
  • Assists in preparing, submitting, and implementing department's portion of the strategic plan for the credit union.
  • Participation in project implementation providing accounting and operational insights, and direction to ensure projects are completed efficiently and effectively.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree – Accounting Preferred

Experience

Five to ten years of similar or related experience
