Testing is being conducted for an Eligibility List for future hiring of additional officers.

Oak Forest Police Department

Police Officer Wages & Benefits

NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

  • Starting salary: $54,073
  • After one year: $72,819
  • Top-out salary: $108,662 after six years per the current union contract which runs through 2025

Schedule

  • Currently: 12-hour shifts

OVERTIME

  • Time and half (1-1/2) their normal hourly rates of pay for all hours worked beyond their normal shifts
  • Minimum of 2 hours paid for court time

COMPENSATORY TIME

  • Compensatory time may be accumulated in lieu of overtime at the rate of time and one-half.
  • Maximum bank and carry-over of eighty (80)

hours of overtime

Holidays

  • 10 paid holidays; 2 floating holidays

LONGEVITY PAY

  • All full-time officers are entitled to annual longevity pay from $500-$4,000, depending on completed years of service.

EDUCATION INCENTIVE PAY

  • All full-time officers who have completed their probationary period are eligible for educational incentive pay
  • Incentive Payment Levels range from $180- $2,000, depending on credit hours completed
  • Officers who receive longevity pay may not also receive educational incentive pay

VACATION TIME

  • Officers are eligible for paid vacation time after the completion of his/her probationary period with the city. Employees shall be entitled to vacation benefits up to 3 weeks after the completion of 5 years
  • After 5 years, employees receive 1additional day for each 2 years of employment completed. For example, on the 7th anniversary date, an employee receives 1 additional day; on the anniversary date, an employee receives one additional day, etc.

SICK LEAVE

  • Earned at the rate of one day per month to a maximum of 12 days a year
  • Unused sick days will be transferred into the Future Benefit Bank based on both number of hours and dollar value

Health, Dental AND VISION INSURANCE

  • Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO and HMO options
  • 80% of premium paid by the city
  • PPO and HMO dental option

LIFE INSURANCE

  • The city shall provide life insurance coverage in the amount of $75,000 for each employee
  • Additional coverage available at employees’ expense

DEFERRED COMPENSATION

  • City maintains a 457 deferred compensation plan. Employees are eligible to receive a 50% city match of deferred compensation contributions, subject to a maximum annual city contribution of $500

HEALTH REIMBURSEMENT, FLEXIBLE SPENDING

  • The city provides an HRA account to full time employees with $1,000 per fiscal year for the employee and or family to use for qualified out-of-pocket medical expenses
  • Employees have the option to elect an employee-funded FSA account

RETIREMENT Health SAVINGS

  • Mandatory contribution of $37.50 per pay to a retirement healthcare funding plan

LINE OF DUTY DEATH

  • If an officer dies in the line of duty, the city shall pay for the cost of the funeral, up to

$20,000

  • State, federal l, and private sector benefits with specific criteria met

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

· Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen

· Driver’s License: Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.

· Age requirement: Must be at least 21 years at the time of application (07/31/24). Must be under 35 years old at the time of application (07/31/24) AND at such time as the final eligibility register is posted, unless they have been certified as a full-time law enforcement officer for a municipality in the United States, or are otherwise exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6

· Education: Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.

· Character: Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.

· Residence: At this time there are no stated requirements for residency declared by the City of Oak Forest

· Testing: Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing.

· P.O.W.E.R. Card: P.O.W.E.R. Card is required at the time of application. Candidates must possess a valid current P.O.W.E.R. Card issued between the dates of 07/31/2023 and 07/31/2024
