City of Fort Worth is Hiring a Traffic Control Technician Near Fort Worth, TX

Pay Range: $20.44/hr. - $25.55/hr.
Job Posting Closing on: Wednesday, June 26, 2024Workdays & Hours: Schedule is Monday - Thursday 8a to 6p, with flexibility for overtime work details on weekends and/or special events.

A Traffic Control Technician is available with The City of Fort Worth Police Department – Traffic Division. This position will contribute to the City’s strategic goals, mission and vision by keeping traffic moving safely and efficiently in assigned areas of City, removing abandoned vehicles from shoulder of freeway and residential areas, and assisting officers with accidents by establishing safety zones and controlling traffic.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year of experience related to traffic control, report writing, customer service or related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of basic traffic laws, parking ordinances and point control.
  • Experience with methods and procedures of radio communication, mobile data computers, and equipment and materials related to traffic control.
  • Knowledge of basic procedures and techniques, hand signals, related to traffic control and common safety precautions and practices, freeway incident management.
  • Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunication System.
  • Experience working with law enforcement, and general departmental policies and regulations.
The Traffic Control Technician Job Responsibilities Include
  • Directs and monitors the flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic around accidents and stranded motorists, during special events, and at intersections when traffic signals are malfunctioning.
  • Assists officers in traffic related accidents and tows illegally parked vehicles, abandoned vehicles and vehicles from accident scenes.
  • Assists stranded motorists and coordinates with other agencies to ensure citizens and their vehicles are moved from hazardous locations on the freeways.
  • Ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks in a timely manner, working without direct supervision.
  • Communicate calmly and effectively with citizens with an ability to write clear and concise reports.
  • Responds to reports of road hazards such as missing manhole covers or hazardous objects on the streets and freeways, requiring ability to drive a motor vehicle throughout the city.
  • Successfully completes all required training such as National Incident Management Systems, Freeway Incident Management, Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System, etc.
  • Employs safe work practices and follows safety guidelines; follows preventative maintenance schedule for equipment.
Working ConditionsFinal candidates selected for hire in the Police Department will be subject to a fingerprint/criminal history background check and polygraph examination. Applicants must not have used marijuana during the previous two (2) years, nor illegally used any controlled substances within the last five (5) years.Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.
Environmental ConditionsDepending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.
Physical DemandsHeavy Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force, occasionally up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
