Klickitat Valley Health is Hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse Near Goldendale, WA

Klickitat Valley Health is looking for an LPN to join our Acute Care team. This full-time position offers 3-12 hour night shifts, 36 hours a week.
The Acute Care department is staffed 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. The average census is 5-7 patients.

Klickitat Valley Health is a rural, critical-access hospital located in scenic Goldendale, Washington only two hou3-12 hour night shiftsrs from Portland along the breathtaking Columbia River Gorge. KVH offers emergency and acute inpatient care and a full scope of ancillary services including General Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory, Respiratory Therapy, PT / OT, Behavioral Health, Dental, Optometry, Pain Management and Hospice. The hospital also owns a busy, well-established primary clinic that is located on hospital campus. Inpatient care is managed by 24/7 Hospitalist staff. KVH employs over 300 staff.
General SummaryThe Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides nursing care activities under the direction of a registered nurse (RN), or provider in the acute care unit within his/her scope of practice (RCW 18.360.050). An LPN may not accept delegation of acts not within his/her scope of practice. The LPN assists the provider, RN or other staff with the daily care of the patient, collecting patient information, communicating key information about changes in patient condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomology, responds quickly and accurately to changes in the patient’s condition or response to treatment, and anticipates/acts on needs of the patient proactively. The LPN assists other caregivers (RN’s and Providers) in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the patient’s status, plan of care and goal achievement. The LPN demonstrates excellence in customer service during interactions with patients, families and other customers and works collaboratively with colleagues and departments throughout the organization to provide optimal outcomes for our patients in a compassionate, professional, ethical and knowledgeable fashion. The LPN is aware of the potential exposure to internal and external hazardous materials, including but not limited to: blood and blood borne pathogens, infectious/communicable diseases, potential physical injury while caring for patients. Maintains a safe and clean environment for the care of the patient.
QualificationsMinimum Education, Training & Experience (includes licenses or certifications):Education / Licensure
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of an accredited LPN program.
  • Current Washington State License for a License Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Current ACLS, BLS, PALS certifications required within six (6) months of hire.
  • Basic computer knowledge required.
Experience
  • At least one (1) year recent full-time experience providing direct patient care in an outpatient or acute care medical setting preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES (but Not Limited To)
  • Supports the mission, vision and values of the organization.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the statutes and regulations governing nursing and nursing functions within the legal boundaries of the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Provides general nursing care to patients under the direction of an RN/provider including, but not limited to: obtains medical histories, takes vital signs, gives personal hygiene/skin care, ADL’s, monitors Intake and Output (I&O), insert and monitor catheters, prepare and give injections/enemas, gives oral medications, applies topical ointments, checks and applies dressings for wound care, collects samples for testing, performs basic lab tests, makes/changes bed linen, answers call lights to determine patient needs, ambulates/assists patient as needed, lifts/turns/moves patient as needed following proper procedure, etc. to insure quality patient care.
  • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population and maintains awareness of patient needs based on age specific factors, as well as being aware of the patient’s physical and psychosocial needs.
  • Contributes to the plan of care and discharge plan for all patients admitted, identifies priorities within the plan and setting realistic and measurable goals in concert with the other caregivers (RN and providers).
  • Evaluates overall plan of care daily, monitors patient progress, reports any changes in patient status or condition to the supervising RN/provider, etc. to ensure patient comfort and safety.
  • Adequately assesses and reassesses pain, utilizing appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
  • Documents all patient care activities and changes in patient condition consistent with nursing policy and procedure; gives detailed report at the end of shift/assignment to supervisory RN and/or other nursing staff.
  • Consults with other department staff as appropriate to provide for interdisciplinary approach to patient care; and communicates clearly (both written and verbal) with charge nurse, co-workers and provider to ensure the care needs of the patient are met.
  • Follows hospital policy and procedures when disposing of biohazardous materials, labelling and handling of materials.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medication/health care errors, is accountable for each specific patient assigned.
  • Performs new nursing techniques or procedures after successful demonstration of competencies.
  • May assist other nursing staff in maintaining patient charts.
  • Provides clerical assistance for the nursing unit, including but not limited to: transcribing practitioner orders to MedAct, answering phones, entering orders/patient demographics/charges into CPSI system; maintains patient census and other patient logs, etc.
  • Complies with all hospital policy and procedures, while upholding the high expectations of KVH.
  • Completes initial and annual competencies.
  • Attends a minimum of 80% of staff meetings and 100% mandatory in-services as required.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
