MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH TEACHER to start August 2024
Overview of School
Granada Preparatory School (GPS) is a Preschool through 8th Grade Independent School in Northridge, California with one class per grade level. GPS is an International Baccalaureate World School and is accredited by WASC. The school community combines the ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic diversity of the San Fernando Valley with a global perspective. GPS’s progressive and internationally recognized educational program is driven by its goal of inspiring creative thinkers, active learners, and global citizens, and fosters all of the skills of 21st century pedagogy. Our small class size and student-centered approach cultivates confidence, self-esteem, and leadership skills. GPS places much emphasis on the arts, a strong sense of community, responsibility, personal growth, and balance. We are looking for an experienced teacher to teach art to our Lower and Middle School grades (kindergarten through 8th grade).
Overview of the Position
The mathematics teacher will serve as a core member of the middle school team in fulfilling and monitoring the school's vision, mission, core values, and goals. As such the teacher will collaborate weekly with the other members of the middle school team to plan, discuss students, and work together to promote the educational needs of their learners. Also serving as a core advisor to one class (this position requires an acute understanding of the developmental uniqueness of the middle level learner and a desire to work with and advocate for this age group.) In addition to classroom instruction, the math teacher will be expected to participate in supervision duties, staff meetings, parent meetings, workshops, and various activities that promote the school’s programs and reputation.
This position will begin in late August for the 2024-2025 school year.
The successful candidate will have the following characteristics and skill set:
· A valid teaching qualification (BA/BS required, MA/MS preferred)
· Teaching credentials and previous teaching experience, and strong knowledge in the area of specializations at the required level of study
· A belief in middle school philosophy and an ability to communicate well with middle school students
· Expertise in building active, collaborative classroom programs which encourage problem solving, critical thinking skills, and such which develop a sense of classroom community and trust
· A visible love and respect for children
· A team player with colleagues and parents
· A good listener and communicator
· A good sense of humor
· Experience with the International Baccalaureate Program is desirable but not mandatory
