Four Rivers Charter Public School is Hiring a School Nurse RN Near Greenfield, MA

OVERVIEW

Four Rivers, located in Greenfield, MA, is seeking outstanding candidates for School Nurse. The School Nurse will work to create a strong health office serving our 220 students in grades 7-12. Four Rivers’ mission is to prepare our graduates for lives of learning and service. The school strives to help students develop important knowledge and skills, build strong character, become ethical people, and contribute to a better world.

Four Rivers looks to the School Nurse to help keep our students well. Mostly this involves physical wellness, but the nurse is a valued member of our student services team, looking out for the general well-being of all our students in all aspects of their lives.

While we will ask a lot of the School Nurse, Four Rivers has a lot to offer. The adults in our school care and work hard. We value our colleagues and work collaboratively.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assures proper assessment and care for student visitors for all emergent, urgent, and non-urgent injury and sudden illness situations, to include administration of medications and medically prescribed interventions and treatments per orders from health care providers.
  • Collaborates with students, families, and staff to write Individual Health, Medication, and Emergency Care Plans, and contribute to other plans (504, IEP) as needed.
  • Maintains SNAP Program (EHR) which includes charting daily logs of visits and individual health records. Manage medical records with accurate and precise record keeping.
  • Organizes and implements all state mandated programs, such as immunization surveillance/compliance and school health screenings.
  • Reviews and coordinates medical needs for all field trips/fieldwork as needed. Includes on-call time and organizing nurse coverage as needed for off-campus activities.
  • Assesses, provides basic treatment, and referral as requested for staff and visitors, to include providing and/or completing staff injury/incident report forms.
  • Train teaching staff in mandated school health-related topics.
  • Complete records and reports for local, regional, and statewide needs as required.
  • Establish and manage a comprehensive school health program consistent with the Massachusetts guidelines, regulations and statutes.
  • As an active member of the school Health and Safety Team and Student Services Teams, collaborate with other professionals, colleagues and community providers in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programs and other school health activities.
  • Along with the administrative team, responsible for monitoring and responding to infectious illness outbreaks in the community.
  • Collaborates with school personnel in establishing and maintaining sanitary conditions in the school buildings.
  • Provides directions and assistance to substitute school nurses.
  • Acts as liaison with School Physician, Greenfield Health Department and other local Boards of Health as needed, the MDPH School Health Services department, and other regional public health contacts.
  • Other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • License, Board of Registration in Nursing
  • Minimum two years of successful nursing experience
  • Preferred: Experience working with middle and high school students
  • Preferred: School Nurse License, Massachusetts Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education, or meets the eligibility to apply and receive DESE licensure within 1 year of hire
  • This position is 1.0 FTE on a 190-day contract.
