Arranges and describesmanuscript collections under the direction of the Assistant Curator, HistoricalManuscripts. Conducts research on biography / history of donor / donatingorganization.

Contributes, expertly searches and retrievesrecords from several complex archival and library systems such asArchivesSpace, Preservica, LibApps, and Alma.

Communicates with donors as required. Provides reference service forpatrons in the Cleanth Brooks Reading room.

Job Duties

• Arranges manuscript collections in accordance withaccepted archival principles of provenance and original order. Developsprocessing plan in collaboration with the Assistant Curator.

weeds non-record materials; separates andintellectually links resolves routine problems, identifies and refers complexproblems to supervisor.

Compiles monthly progress reports.

Describes manuscript collections in accordance withaccepted archival practice. Creates objective, pertinent, and concise findingaids for the collections, including traditional and online EAD-compliantfinding aids utilizing ArchivesSpace.

Researches donor or donating organizationto write biographical or historical entries in finding aid. Communicates withdonors as appropriate to gather information on the collection.

• Provides reference service for patrons in theCleanth Brooks Reading room. Recordsstatistics in LibApps.
• Tracks orders for digital images and submits digitizationrequests to the Digital Lab. Obtains patron's and curator's signatures on Intentto Publish form.

Calculates payment based on fee schedule. Invoices patron,accepts payment, and submits invoice with payment to Special CollectionsSpecialist.

• Assists in environmental monitoring of the storageand conservation areas.
• Completes special projects and other dutiesincluding but not limited to assisting in the shifting of materials and withspecial events.

Participates inUniversity Library committees and groups.

Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Familiarityworking with primary source material.
• Excellentresearch skills.
• Excellentwriting and proofreading skills.
• Ability to organize primary sourcematerial in accordance with archival principles of arrangement and description.
• Ability to handle and move objects upto 25 pounds.
• Abilityto perform detailed tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
• Abilityto help patrons use library or archival resources.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’sdegree in Library and Information Science or Bachelor’s degree in library andinformation science with archival studies coursework or six months experiencein archives.
• Knowledgeof local and Mississippi history.
• Sixmonths’ experience in archives.
• Familiaritywith archival descriptive standards such as MARC, EAD, DACS and Dublin Core.
• Knowledgeof basic preservation measures.
• Threemonths’ experience interacting with public.
